Out of the box idea - a "come kill me" bounty
« on: June 13, 2008, 12:56:07 PM »
Slipknot's post about getting paid for kills by HTC may well be one of the most moronic "request" I've ever seen posted on the wishlist - but it did make me think of something else that might be interesting, at least conceptually.

There are those that are always complaining that they can't seem to find a good fight, who complain that everyone is too concerned about saving their own skin to want to "risk" fighting them.

But what if those players who are complaining that they can't seem to find a good fight could opt to put up a bounty on themselves, by paying HTC an express amount of money that is to be used to payoff the guys who get a kill on them?  Let me explain by way of example - Joe goes to the HTC website and puts 20 bucks in his bounty account, which gets charged to his registered creditcard. When he next goes to launch a flight in game, he can choose to enter an amount up to his remaining balance that would be the "bounty amount" if he's killed in this flight. (Or he can choose to not have a bounty on this flight, as well, which should probably be the default.)

Let's say he chooses 50 cents.

Now, when he launches, his icon shows a bounty code to enemy players - for example, it shows a cents symbol if the bounty is less than 50 cents, a $ symbol if it's less than $1.50, and perhaps $$ if it's more than a $1.50 (or some such - you get the idea).  Maybe at some point - or perhaps if he so chooses - at some it shows his name to enemy players.   Or maybe either by choice or if he exceeds a certain amount, his radar dot to other players is different - perhaps it's a different color, or perhaps it's shown even outside the radar rings, etc.

In short, it would be an idea that might give those who feel that the fight is everything a way to incentive other players to give them what they most enjoy - a fight regardless of odds.  On similar lines to the Red Baron having his aircraft painted red.

Instead of cash the bounty could be the perk points belonging to the person looking for the fight.

If you think that you are always a target for a huge cloud of enemy cons, wait til they are getting reimbursed for your death!  Ugh.  No.

Possibly to 633DH98 - although it might not have as much of an impact, and might open the system to some sort of "perk transfer exploit".

Waystin, a player that feels as though they are always the target for a huge cloud of enemy cons wouldn't be inclined to want to attract more - it would be a tool for the guys who moan about not being able to find anyone who wants to fight.

Well ... someone has to say it ... then this has to be the second most "moronic request" ...  ;)

In essence, HTC is going to play the "middle-man" that involves money transfers via the internet ... from a business standpoint, there is no ROI (return on investment) and a whole lot of liable exposure.

Using perks ... that, might be fun.

I don't know one way or another on the liability issue - except that if it was my business I'd for sure have a legal team review any plans before implementing them.  And there would almost certainly need to be a limit to how much another person could win from any other in any given time period to prevent some sort of clever abuse.

So maybe perks would be better - but I still think you'd have to come up with some way to prevent "perk transfer abuse".

Not that I really think HTC ever would (or even should) implement something like this - I just thought it was a bit of a clever "twist" on the can't get a fight complaint.

And it's a good place holder between the requests for B29's and N00Ks...

It would give the term 'Kill Stealing' a whole new.. albeit brain-wrenchingly ugly, consequence.

I can see it now....late war red/black perk arena. Given a button control as to what you wager in perks for being shot down. No names as to who shot down who or channel 200 either. So there's some sort of at arms length effect too. Well its a wish and would give a reason to use more of them. Would make dying bad for some and not so bad for others. Wouldn't want to put the old card to that but would go with the peek idea quicker. Good luck on it man.

I can see it if it was done with perks.

But it would probably take a lot of work to coad, with no real payoff for HTC.
