Sorry to hear Mac.

I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Pets can be family memners. The good ones ARE family and often are better family than the 2 legged kind we are born into a relationship with.

Sorry your buddy had to leave. Wait a while and find another one. You know that's what he would want.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Sorry Mac. No words help I know. When I lost my last dog I had to take a day off from work and my buddies had to come bury him for me. I was a damn wreck to say the least.

Very sorry to hear f your loss.
Been there myself a few times now.
And will be there again at least two more times.

Thing is. I know it doesnt get any easier.
No more then the passing of any other member of the family.

Have a Golden myself now. Along with a Chocolate Lab.

Great damn dogs.

you can have other kinds of animals.
you can have all sorts of people around you.
But you will never have a better friend

Sad to hear it.

What you wrote is exactly why dogs are so much better than cats.

Damn Mac, sorry to hear.  :frown:

But at least he had a full and happy life with you and your family, and you were able to love and enjoy him.

I've had German Shepherds in my family all of my adult life, and been through this more than I care to think about.

Maverick has the right idea...go find yourself a puppy as soon as you can bring yourself to do it.

Sorry to hear about this, Macs

Dogs give their love and never show pain.  Gotta admire them for that.

Damn Mac, Real sorry to hear about losing a companion like that. You do know he saved you from having to make that decision we all hope we never have to make.

The wife and I bought a Golden Retriever 3 years after we lost our last mutt (had her for 16 years).

1st purebread I've ever paid good money for.  He's 2 now, what a great dog.  Love him like one of my kids.
Can't keep him outta the water, he lives for it.  Took him to OGIE's one night swimming in his inground pool. After we got tired of throwing his toy in for him to dive after, he decided to do it himself. He'd drop it in one end, go around to the steps and hop in and swim to get it. Absolutely hilarious to watch. Here's a Pic of Shiloh bout 6 months ago.

Sorry about your friend.I had to put my namesake and avatar down at the age of four with terminal cancer.

It sucks, but take some comfort in knowing your dog lived a long and happy life my friend.

Man it sux... caught myself twice today wanting to go check his water bowl.

A great loss of Love. I just hope someday I'm as good as a person that he thought I was.

Mac

Thanx all for the kind words.

Heartbreaking Mac, sorry. I can truly say, I know how you feel.  Soon, your feelings will change from grievious loss to wistful smile when you think of him.  You'll miss him but you'll be able to smile when you think of him.

What hurts is I laid beside him when he came into my home and laid beside him when he passed on.
He cried like a baby first, now I'm the one cryin like a baby.
I guess it takes time to heal.
