AvA bombsight help please
« on: June 15, 2008, 10:49:42 PM »
I logged on to the AvA war for the first time tonight and in 2 sorties with a flight of B-17's was able to hit 0.00 targets. I see that the AvA bombsight is more complicated and delibrate to setup than the MA bombsight, so can anyone explain to me what the steps are to get an accurate drop?

I figured out how to set the "trgt alt" by pressing "shift+left click", but when I finish calibrating my crosshairs aren't lined up with my plane and my bombs land like 2 miles ahead of the target.

Hit U, find a tree or something, and hold Y while manipulating the stick to hold the bombsight on that tree that you chose for the longest time possible. Then let go of Y, hit U again and you're calibrated. Just make sure your E6B TAS and the TAS in the bombsight match up, but you have to do that in the MA bombsight too, anyway.

You also need to shift /left click on the target on your map while in calibrate mode to set the target alt. You also want to watch your e6b, and adjust throttle accordingly to get a zero rate of climb as this will also effect your accuracy. Keep in mind too that as you fly you burn fuel and become lighter. So your airspeed may change causing you to have to reset your speed (ML's post). We'll be training this this this week. We all need it, hehe.

Shotgun, what has been said by Blkmgc and Motherland in the 2 posts after your question are both critical ingredients to a successful calibration, additionally we have found that a constant airspeed is a must as well, from the time you level out your aircraft it requires at least one grid of travel in level flight for the aircraft to achieve that airspeed. The information in your E6B will tell you what you need to know, disregard the indicated airspeed, but the true airspeed should be within 5 MPH of the calibrated airspeed and if you are within this window then drop on target, if the true A/S is under the calibrated A/S then drop a little short, if the true A/S is greater than the the calibrated A/S then drop a little longer, how far long or short on the drop depends on the diff between the two airspeeds, if the difference is very great do a re cal if you have time, also once the calibration is completed use only the J & L keys (rudder keys) no stick turns, to make your left & right corrections, the rest is practice, these are the basics that we The Avengers like to stick to, but it is still a learning process for us all. Over the weekend a wind factor has been added to the game and we haven't been as accurate since then, we are working and testing daily to understand how to factor the wind variable into the calibration, any ideas along these line would be appreciated.
All in all it is still an evolving game and we The Avengers welcome all of you here, the joint missions have been very enjoyable and I hope they continue.
