How'd you pick your dog?

I was drunk and my criteria is a pretty face with big breasts.

My wife went with her friend who was going to pick out a dog. We had talked about getting one of our own and I was about ready. Like Storch, it took me a while to get ready to have another dog.

Well, while there one came over and brought her a stick and licked her. Well, I went to see him 30 minutes later and we left with him. He's now 5, a Schnauzer/Poodle mix who is a great dog. A lot of personality, very sweet and pretty smart. He loves people and other dogs. A trip to the Vet is still like a trip to Disney Land for him, except for the few minutes he is actually up on the table.

I haven't graduated to the economic status of owning a house yet and finding a rental to allow dogs is like finding the secret universe where dryer socks disappear to.  Anyways... my wife and I live with two cats.

She adopted one at the shelter before we moved in together a few years ago and I adopted my own a year later.  Before I picked out my current cat I strolled past the dogs (as much as I love my cat, I grew up as a dog person).  My heart really goes out to some of the animals in there.  I always spend the most time with the 'saddest' animals as I can't imagine what its like to sit there for almost a year for some.

As much as I'd like to get a puppy when I finally own some property, the under-appreciated shelters I think require my attention.

Missus came home with the last gremlin a few months ago. Its a pure race of some sort thats worth alot i hear. To me she is ugly but not without her charm i guess. Its a bulldog of some sort. All the dogs we have had before (flatcoated retievers) we picked becuause we have always had em and they love protect kids.

when I was a little boy my first pet was a german shephard and i've loved them every since. they highly intelligent, loyal and protective. and they're beautiful.

Growing up, my mother was a Shepherd breeder.  I always kept the ones that didn't freak out at the sound of a gunshot, etc.  Pretty tough criteria if ya wanna make sure you have the right one for.........

Mom used to breed Malamutes, before the Shepherds.  Northern Dogs are pretty cool, also.  Until they get sneak out without a leash.  Northern dogs like to run.

<S>  Isn't that the truth!
Mal's and Shepards are my favorite breeds.  Very stubborn at times though.  Sneaky and smart too!  Currently looking for another Mal to train in search and rescue.

Brandy picked us.  I went out to a farm to look at her, and she jumped into the car thru an open window and crawled into the backseat.  Nothing like a 130 pound dog in the backseat of a Suzuki Sidekick....

We had to put her down 3 years ago, but for 10 years we couldn't have asked for a better dog to pick us. :)

The daughter had a friend who found a stray pug. She told her Mom who just had to go see it. She saw it, done deal. :frown:

Turned out to be a really sweet dog, perfectly house trained and very well behaved. One of the best dogs I have ever been around.

Was working from home one summer and, in the afternoons, squids friends and he would gather at my house and play yugioh.  One day one of the kids comes in and tells me there's a stray dog in my yard.  I go outside, call her, and she comes right up to me.  No tags but looks like she's been well cared for.  I let her in the house and she sees squid and goes right up to him, jumps on the couch, and curls up next to him.  We did the poster / flyer thing around the neighborhood for a couple of weeks with no bites and decided to keep her.  Took her to the vet who identified her as a Llewellin Setter.  Best dog I've ever had or will have.  Great with kids, loves to play frisbee, highly intelligent, and loyal.  Downsides is they shed like crazy and if they get a chance to run they will run all day.  Also in their puppy stages they bore easily and like to chew so my couch resembles the one I had when I was fresh out of high school in my first apartment.  Who needs great furniture when you have the noble beast 'sparky'
