Film Recorder Wish
« on: June 23, 2008, 03:16:54 PM »
OK this was brought up at the last con (2006) and HiTech asked me to post about it in the wishlist forum, which I did, but seeing as there have been numerous updates since then and nothing concerning this particular wish I figured I'd bring it up again.

Make the film recorder configurable by the player. Several items to this request.

1. Create a recorder interface window in the Options menu to allow the players to configure the recorder how they want.

2. Options should include, Auto Record (recorder auto starts every time a player spawns) Auto Save (recorder auto saves last film once a player is back in the tower with a date/time stamp for a file name) Selective Start (recorder only records if an enemy is within ICON range) Selective Save (when a player reaches the tower a pop up comes up asking the player if they want to save the last film or series of films AND give the player the OPTION of naming the films whatever they want) and of course Default which would leave the recorder as it is currently set up were the player has to manually turn it on and off using the Alt-R command.

Just trying to keep the dream alive :aok

Not a bad idea. I think HTC may need to change the default film-naming scheme, as at the moment as the number of films grow in your Films folder, the more of a stutter happens when you toggle the recorder on. This, i suspect, is the way AH has to find the next free number to call the file. Maybe a date-based scheme could help? I dunno, just speculating.

I like this Idea....because everytime you see a glitch or something of that nature the first thing HT ask for is a film....and after saying that I don't think HT would like the idea of getting hundreds of film's a day with players complaints! But what a good idea for self training...

What we need is a Gun Camera..

Something you can setup to record everytime you press that trigger.

In the mean time, I have map the key function to my speedpad and use this like a real gun camera.

Or have it give you a gun-cam effect and start recording everytime you fire and keeping it rolling for the next 5 minutes unless you tower out.  :aok

OK I don't know about the rest of you, but when ever I turn on my recorder now, I get a little bit of a screen freeze. It doesn't last long but it's there. I've also had people call me and tell me I'm warping all over the place for a second or so right after I've turned my recorder on or taken a screen shot. I get this on a high end system too.

So why would I want to get a screen freeze right at the moment I'm going to fire? That's why I asked for a selective record option that turns it on if your within Icon range. A small screen freeze doesn't matter to me if the bad guy is 5K away. If he's in my face and I get one as soon as I shoot my guns, well then I'm pissed. Also you'd end up with a million different videos to sort through.

My original idea only records a single sortie, or only records if your within range of an enemy. Besides we need to keep this kinda simple.

I like this idea. I continually forget to turn on recorder when entering a fight and this would be very helpful. The only I would say is to have the ability to override the auto-record by using the alt-r to turn on recorder manually when in game. From time to time our squad will run a sortie to a base for a laugh and not so much for a fight and may not even see an enemy. An example of this would be a stuka raid on a base, now usually somebody ups for the easy kills but occasionally we pull this off with little to no resistance. I usually record such flights just to have a laugh later on and if the film recorder was set to auto for range of enemy then the only way to start this would be manually.

That is pretty simple with my idea

You totaly missed what I was saying didn't you. Having it set up to start recording when you fire your guns is a BAD idea due to screen freezes and warps.
