LA-5fn vs. LA-7

What is the diffrance between the LA5 and the LA7 I already know that the 5 has less cannon and only two guns but other then that they
seem the same.I have also heard the LA5 turns better is this thue?

Top speed, engine power, climb rate, it's like a 109F-4 compared to a 109G-2. Minor changes to the airframe, mostly speed-related differences.

DoKGonZos site says that the LA7 outturns the LA5 by a few feet.  I believe the La7 is also faster and has more cannons

Actually, the La5 is a great short range fighter, awesome for base defence.



It's also fantastic for point defense and short range assault support.

and the La 5 is also a great way to disappoint people trying to kill the La-7s for extra perkies from that 5 ENY value. ( I usually only go after La-7s) :D :aok

The La5FN and La7 have the same engine power, the speed gain is purely aerodynamic IIRC. The 3 guns setup was very rare, and many people are asking to make it a perk loadout. the B-20 cannons where more prone to jamming that the good old Shvaks.

The SHvaks seem to deliver more punishment to me though, last time I flew one. I guess its cause you know you have less ammo?

the damage per bullet is almost the same, I don't know about the ROF.

I prefer the shvaks also, I'm used to their ballistics and the firing time is longer. The punch is better on the B20's thought.

Damage per round should be the same.  Ballistics should be about the same. SHVAK 20 and B-20 use same ammo, have nearly identical muzzle velocity and ROF. The difference is in the weight. 3 x B-20 (without ammo) weigh slightly less than 2 x SHVAK.

In addition to that, some structural changes were made (metal wing spars, etc) using more metal instead of wood. I believe they shaved off few hundreds lbs in total.

Aerodynamics.....and  a new prop (although how much difference the prop makes is questionable as Tsagi made no claim re its contribution to thrust)  Some early La5FN's still used the wing with wooden spa but I have always assumed AH2 La5FN to be a later version with metal spar as the fuel tanks are the same.

Whilst pure drag is less on the La7 (particularly when the engine cooling vents are feathered) there was also a slight weight loss which was further aided by the 3 x B20 cannon over the 2 x Shvak. In other areas the La7 had 80mm longer gear struts and was less likely to lose a prop tip on landing. Its cockpit dash was totally re designed. It had slightly lighter controls due to re balancing and gearing the actuating mechanisms.
