Much like the B-29? No. 100% identical soviet-made copy, down to the stamps on the rubber tires.


It's a cold war copy bomber. Well after WW2 ended. Sorry.
They even copied patches made to the fuselage skin to cover battle damage on the captured B-29. Took a perfect skin panel, cut a hole in it, then riveted on an .040 patch to cover it! :rofl

I'm bringing this thread to life again  :rock the TU4 would be a nice competition to the 29s. Faster engine and cannon make it good to chose one or other.

The Tu-4 first flew on 19 May 1947, piloted by test pilot Nikolai Rybko. Serial production started immediately, and the type entered large-scale service in 1949.
