1. Weapons Range.

I have been getting killed at 800 yards plus as I pull away WITH Good E from a bounce.

2. Equality of Ammunition.

I can hit targets with good solids bursts, mix of cannon and machine gun.  They don't die.

I get hit by a con in a similar plane and he kills me? (I have hit the same con up to four times with perhaps six seconds of burst and not killed him?

Example 1: I hit torque the other night in a front quarter pass.  I was in a 38 and for about 1 second I lit up his front quarter with MG 151/20 and .50Cal.  Torque flew on like he had not been hit (Torque in a F4U and me in a 38.)

Example 2:Later I hit Torque in a HO.  I saw my hit sprites all over Torque for two seconds before I heard ping on my Spit (Torque again in F4U) I was again on both triggers.  Torque eventually got my wings, then we collided (I got that kill.)

Example 3: Packrat in a P-51 me in Spit.  I hit packrat with a front quarter shot (His engine and conopy were lit up with hit sprites) and He flew past me, shot down another rook and then flew back toward me, and shot me down?  Later I hit some other Bish P-51 with a very similar shot, he was smoking before he even got past me?

Example 4: I dove on Packrat (Me Spit, Packrat Pony) I hit packrat from Spinner to Tail with about 2 seconds of .303 and 20MM twas a good high angle oblique and he flew through my pattern.  I was attempting to clear the six of another Rook.  Packrat flew on apparently no damage and made the kill.

Example 5: Earlier tonight I hit a Bish Nick, two seconds of mixed MG151/20 and .50Cal from a P-38.  I had a lot of E and I came around and hit him again (Wing root and engine and wing.) Both times good 2 second bursts.

The Bish Nick was still low, and as I went to extend he Accelerated and shot me down (I think it was Jcy19) from about 1.1K

I was starting to think the Bishops had something that made them take less damage?

ACK?

I dragged Torque into the ack on two occasions last night.  Apparently the Ack can't hit Torque but can take my engine out in a single high speed?

Bombers?

The BISHOPS are having Great Fun now, flying at 35K and bombing our HQ.  We have taken to launching from one and climbing to try and intercept.  Weazel (A knight) Easily shot down Pongo (was a trainer) with the .50Cal and Weazle was at like 28K (Something we consider reasonable.)  When the Bishop B-17s are at 35K we can't reach them to touch them.

Not whining here, but which fighter can manuver at 35K to make a pass??  Its not the P-38 I have been trying?

Also at about 30K the cons are off of DAR and just the Sector Markers appear, the Bish come over the mountains over 30K so we don't know they are there until the Marker moves into the grid square just before the HQ.  No plane will climb fast enough to reach a B-17 at 35K before the B-17 can cover the 40Miles, bomb the HQ and then egress out of the gridsquare.

I have recorded a couple sorties but I can only see my tracers.  I will continue to record and try and provide you some examples of what I am seeing.  The worst part is that others are killing me easily, and I can put a lot of ammo into them with little or no effect.

WRT the high buffs-

Mighty1 and I caught a high buff in our territory tonight- 35K high. We both had upped in P38's, took the long climb, and dispatched him with ease.

Now in the past I have been against Buffs above 32K at all costs. Now I'm not so sure. The 38 still had a hefty 1,000fpm climb at that alt, and maneuvering was no sweat. Had he been at 32K, he would have been dead much, much sooner.

True, they can get in and out before you can get to them if you don't watch the radar and respond quickly enough. OTOH, if you get a few 38's up there the buffs will die.

So, the question is "where is the optimal altitude for fun for everyone?"

Below 32K the buffs are toast in a 38-laden arena.

Above 32K fighters need considerable lead time to intercept.

The latter example to me seems the better balance, as it does make interception hard, but not impossible. And it will take an organized effort to keep the buffs off. I'd say let them go up as high as they want as long as there is a fighter to reach them.

Bet you bomber guys never thought you'd hear me say that!

I made a bad approach on weasle...Out of wep and wanted to push it...Thats all that happend there.
Just for the record.
Yes Keiren intercepts are possible with the 38 at very high alt. Weazle was only at 28k but he had a good head of steam so I had trouble catching him and climbing at same time. We had little warning as out front bases where down. Next time I will drop the tanks....
Salute Weaz, was a good mission.

DT,

Try low g evasives all the way out to 1.2 or 1.4K.

Looking back, u may see 800, but he may see 500 due to net lag.

If you extend in a straight line you are just giving him long range gunnery practice if he chooses to take the shot.

Very few rounds hit in a burst at 900 or more...but it only takes one 20mm to mess up your day. Low E jinks make you very tough to hit due to time of flight.

The other sounds like you have the dreaded "rubber bullets". Some guys report that exiting, relogging the ISP and re-joining seems to fix that. One guy in our squad on a cable modem <who is a FINE shot> seems to experience this.
