Mixed Nuts
« on: July 16, 2008, 12:17:17 AM »
I stopped at the grocery store tonight and thought I'd buy some Planters mixed nuts as a snack food for the next week or two.  I haven't bought them in ages and thought it sounded good.  They were advertised as "less than 50% peanuts" on the package.

First of all, I'm wondering how they measure the 50% peanut thing.  By number?  By weight?  It seems to me there are more than 50% peanuts.  OK, I can forgive that, but what they didn't say was 90% peanuts and cashews.  What happened to the days when there were 50% Brazil nuts, Walnuts, Almonds, etc.?  If all I wanted was peanuts and cashews I would have bought peanuts or cashews.

I wish people would just sell what they advertise, make it a quality product, and charge what's appropriate rather than trying to make you believe their product is something that it's not.

This brings up the much larger topic of everything becoming lower in quality than it used to be; products, infrastucture, everything.  Personally, I think that with our advanced technology, communication, etc. that we should be ashamed that we can't produce quality as well as (at least for some of us) our parents did back in the '40's, '50s and '60's.

I can only surmize that no one wants to pay for quality anymore.  The space shuttle lost a few heat tiles?  No biggie.  The 35W bridge collapsed in Minneapolis?  We'll build a new one.  I guess I just don't remember the Hoover dam collapsing.

Going to eat my peanuts and cashews now.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Confuscious say: "Squirrel who runs up girls leg - not find nuts."

The moral to this story is, you gotta be careful about those percentages. For example, you use the potentially misleading term yourself - "90% peanuts and cashews" ...

that could me two cashews and a thousand peanuts, or a thousand cashews and two peanuts.

know wut i mean?
