disabled buf guns
« on: January 27, 2001, 05:42:00 PM »
The buf guns were originally disabled on the ground in WB when the fighter pukes complained about ackstars.  They were later disabled below 50 knots IAS.

This was in WB when there were AUTO gunners.

The conditions for this no longer exist, but it has been carried over from WB.  There are no more auto gunners on bufs and anyone can 'ackstar' with a flak on the field.  So why let P-38s sit on the end of the runway and shoot anyone who spawns at the other end?

I say enable buf guns under any conditions.  It won't affect how much teamwork required to take a field and it will at least be more realistic.

Why?

All you get is Buffs sitting on the field acting as impromptu AA guns.  I don't want to see that.

Hans.

Believe me I hate the ackstar syndrome, but the solution to this is to bomb the bomber hangars. If you knock out the hangars like you are supposed to you have no problems with ackstars or anything else for that matter.

Fighter guns should be disabled on the ground too IMHO.

I mean, think about it. The only reason you ackstar is to either use the unholy turbolaser to kill things or to panic-strafe the troops that are on the ground.

Right now, a P38 and the B26 can both fire their guns and kill troops. Heck, the p38 can even fire the rockets.. at d1.3 or less those rockets will fall (and thats about the range from the spawn point to the map room!).

If people want to kill the troops, either get a VEHICLE or get airborne and then strafe. This BS of fighters spawning and strafing troops is ridiculous imho. Itd make more sense to have the pilot exit the tower with a crowbar and going hand-to-hand

In beta, there was a period when they weren't disabled.  Trust me, you don't want to go back.
