Need Help Disabling A Local Network in XP
« on: July 12, 2008, 11:05:16 PM »
Hi All,

Everything was working fine on my PC until I foolishly attempted to create a Peer to Peer network with file sharing using my PC, my router, and my desktop in order to move our photo albums to the desktop for back-up. I never did get the Peer to Peer going but the vestiges are creating havoc on my internet access.

Now when Zonealarm (my firewall) is set to "high" security I can't get to the internet. What do I have to do to rollback the process, knock out sharing, and disable the home network in XP?

Thanks!

My info:
Windows XP SP 2
AMD Athlon XP2500+
1.84GHz, 512MB Ram
RR, Dlink Cable Modem, Belkin Wireless G Router

You might try using System Restore to bring your system back to a point before the P2P setup.

Hi Wabbit,

Thanks for the suggestion, I would have done that, but unfortunately system restore isn't running on the PC in question.

Perhaps contact the tech-support guys at your router's company to reverse the router portion.

If its a simple sharing folder on your system you can reverse it's, "share," attribute by right-clicking it, going to Properties, then on the top press, "Sharing." Now simply press, "Do not share this folder." Afterwards press Apply, then OK. That will prevent the folder from appearing on the network.
