PzKpfw V
« on: July 14, 2008, 03:57:37 AM »
I believe the PzKpfw V or commonly know as the Panther would be a great addition to are tank forces in the game. I think this is a important tank to add to the game because in my opinion the Panther had a larger impact on the war then the Tiger tank. Much more Panther tanks were built then the tiger. The Kill death ratio of the panther was five to one on the western front and on the eastern front it was nine to one. The slant of the frontal armor(55 degrees) was impenetrable to most AP rounds of the day. In one case in August of 1944 a Panther tank knocked out three M4 and three M5 tanks while being hit by 15 APC rounds, which all ricocheted off the tank. Another case a panther was hit by a 90MM AP round in the upper front armor, the round simply left a crack with no internal damage to the tank.

So I believe the Panther tank would be a great addition to the game.

And  in adding this to the game all over tanks would be obsolete and not used.

So you just want an uber tank that will kill everything, and can't be killed by anyhing else. That's just dweebiness.
Quite frankly, I just don't give a damn.

Not true. The Firefly and the Tiger could kill it from any angle, and Panzer / T34 from sides/rear for sure.

From beginning of production, Main Battle tank of the German Pnzr forces, and absent from the game.  Would love to see the Panther.  For that matter I would love to see the standard M4 battle tank as well.  Too have the current tank line up we have, is a bit unrealistic.  I bet HTC is already working to improve this.  Good post.  Not new...but Good non the less.  :aok

Someone who knows WWII armor answer this for me... I'm too lazy to dig for the answer:

The 75mm cannon on the Pzr Mk IV and the Pzr V are the SAME or DIFFERENT?  Im under the impression that the projectiles were the same, just the case was different (more capacity for the PzrV rounds).  Also, I'm under the impression that aside from the lack of top notch armor and a high speed, the Pzr Mk IV and its cannon proved to be a good match for all but the biggest Soviet armor of WWII.  Yes?

Oh... and no, I dont think we need the Panther.  The PzrV would not fill a role tha is void right now.  WE have the T34, the Pzr IV, and the Firefly and that is more than enough medium tanks in a WWII air combat sim.  I say we need a tank destroyer first.  After that, it is time to debate more.  :D

Different guns.

Panzer IV at it's best configurment was equipped with the KwK40 L/43 75 mm gun.

Panzer V was equipped with the more powerful, longer ranged KwK42 L/70 75.

Also, IMHO, the Panther would indeed fill an absent and much needed role in any historically based snapshots, scenarios, etc. Particularly Eastern Front.  As would the standard Sherman M-4 in the West.

I've also heard that because of the Panthers high velocity projectile, it had better penetration than the Tigers 88mm round!
