"Anybody have WAS?  DXCC?  10-10 VP number?"

Not I.... while I enjoy greatly the community; I'm not interested in most clubs that would have me as a member, nor interested in chasing paper accolades. I do however hugely enjoy landing a choice contact and pumping the fella on what the local conditions are. Most folks just want a signal report... I wanna know about the local politics, economics, living conditions... (btw, most folks I run into in the US hate the government, & most folks I run into overseas hate our government, too. ;))

"What's your best QRP contact?"

10W... into Portugal on 20m with the beam. Somebody told me 'You were using a Beam?? that's "cheating"!! Well, damn... I asked the griper if he had a beam... of course, he didn't. But he did confess he wanted one. ;)

"Anyone have a great novice story to tell?"

...well, there was this one time I keyed up a Ranger on 10m... with a roger-beep. (wasn't my radio, I swear!! ;)

"What's your oldest piece of boat anchor equipment?"

My TS-830S... a complete station, carefully restored and including the MC-50 mic, AT-230 Tuner, DFC-230 external VFO, SP-230 Speaker and SM-220 Scope... all perfect, immaculate and sounding grand.

Ever work a "celebrity" ham?

Sure...  K9EID. He liked my audio. I was grinning from ear to ear.... I was on an Audio Technica $40 buck mike. I didn't have the heart to tell him, though. ;)

73's!

Yes, NO, & Yes.  I'm three countries away from DXCC.  My WAS is 40M SSB--I got that from being a member of the Triple H Net.  Worked some KILLER DX on that net.

"What's your best QRP contact?"

I worked Milwaukee on 10M with 50mW from Raleigh

"Anyone have a great novice story to tell?"

Back in the "old days", novices had 3700 to 3750.  The Trans-Canada Pow Wow Club met on 3749.  I was a member for years, got to be one of the Charter Members, traveled there and met many of them in person.  I was the only Charter Member who had to check in on CW.

"What's your oldest piece of boat anchor equipment?"

Kenwood Twins (from the early '70's)

Ever work a "celebrity" ham?

K9EID. Worked him too, on 75M SSB one of of HIS microphones.  "JoJo" KIncaid (radio air personality) likes to work 17M.  Talked with Joe Walsh of the Eagles on 75 once.  I just missed Ronnie Milsap by 10 minutes.

Haven't hammed in years got my General Class when I was 13. I have to assume it has long expired, but it was a great experience and bond to share in what turned out sadly to be the last years of my fathers life. We used to drive around with a 10m radio. I talked to Britain, Germany, Finland all kinds of places when the sunspots got the ionisphere all riled up. I remember using 2m repeaters, and Packet radio ( early wormhole style internet ) and doing " field day " staying up all night CQ ing on 20m or 40m. I almost mastered that dang paddle style morse sender too ;)

My callsign was KA3WEK, and my late father was KA3WJK. We graduated "novice" class together and I kept my callsign thru technician and general. He passed and I never really picked it up ever again but maybe one day.

Man this brings back great memories of the Pottstown Area Repeater Team meetings w/ donuts and my Morse code mentor Rolf jespersen  ( N3LA ). He was a norweigan navy radio operator and no lie the guy could send and recieve morse code at upwards of 40 wpm or more :)

If I recall it correctly the USN radiomen had to do 30wpm whilst copying it on a type writer.I could copy 30 wpm,but not really copying it!I just listened to the message, and never wrote down anything.Worked for me!You fellas keep on talking about ham radio, and I might just become semi-active!

Hi Checkers.

You really don't have to worry about /portable anymore.  With vanity call signs and such you can get pretty much anything anwhere anymore.

Amazing how much some things have relazed over the last 20 years.

I remember when mobiles had to keep a paper log of contacts.

Yes, I qualify for QCWA.   :O

My 10-10 VP number is 3260 (500 10-10 's worked & confirmed).

QSL Jester.

You and I could work each other on 75, 60, 40, 30, maybe 10M 6M and maybe 2 M via a Little Rock repeater.  WooT!  I even know where St. Charles is.

Also...

<---------------Formerly KA0NIU and KA9SOX

KA9SOX was back in the day you got your call sequentially and no changing calls.  I'm a Cubs fan and alternatively laughed & cried the day I cracked open the envelope from the FCC.

Well... more'n enuff folks to get a rag chew going.

Most nights, past midnight eastern, I can be found on 3.933.. I suspect the midwest stations may be able to make it out here.

Another interesting idea pops... any of you folks ever see this before?

http://www.camradio.net/

mebbe we can do something similar?
