Whining Dont read if offended by a snivle or two
« on: June 17, 2000, 01:59:00 AM »
The three country system without any way to disuade gangbanging is the biggest weakness in this game. It shows a real lack of imagination not to have done something about it long ago. It definatly costs subscriptions. No one stays because of it but people leave because of it. Net loss.
To all of you who can take it in your stride for 2 weeks..salute. I sure cant. What a stupid way to wreck a good game.

Last tour IMO we had a pretty good 3 sided war going on for most of the month.  This tour though   has been one great big knight gangbang IMO.  After logging on for 5 nights straight now and seeing we only have 5- bases left, I'm starting to get a little frustrated.  Tonight was my worst night in AH in over 2 months and the first time I ever hit the quit button because I was so mad I couldn't play anymore.  Luckly these nights are few and far between.

Psst...

The Bishops have 5448 kills and have been killed 5526 times against the Rooks.

The Rooks have 5526 kills and have been killed 5448 times against the Bishops.

The Bishops have 9599 kills and have been killed 9040 times against the Knights.

The Rooks have 7445 kills and have been killed 7386 times against the Knights.

A little adding here will tell you the Bishops have 18639 engagements with the Knights and only 10974 with the Rooks.  For the Rooks its 14831 vs Knight and 10974 vs Bishops.  I'd say we have every right to complain.

Wow, those numbers are pretty damning.  What's up with that?  Oh well, more targets for me.

Well, for the first ten days of Tour 5 Knights were having 15-25 more pilots than the Bishops in late evening GMT (7-10 GMT).  One night there was 45 Knights and only 18 Bishops, and I think about 25 Rooks (nits were having nearly double Bish turnout for a whole week).  So, I think it's only the past 4 or 5 days that the turn out has been equal.  It's just one of those things....

How many pilots did the Knights regularly have during Beta?

Well, I took a look at Tour 4 and here's what I came up with -

Total Kills, per country
 • Knights - 27722
 • Bishops - 27652
 • Rooks - 26151
Kill Ratio, Knights vs.
 • Bishops - 1.063
 • Rooks - 1.025

I also noticed that Knights & Rooks had the least kills between each other of the three sides.

My only conclusions are:
• They're jealous of our superior ability.
 • What comes around, goes around.  In Tour 4, the Bishops appear to have been gang-banged the most of the three.
So if you add a fourth country that will fix this "problem" how???
If you have 4 countries you end up having two countries gang banging another or the third while a useless 4th sits off in the corner by itself
If you have two you have one side gang banging the other, constantly.

Why do people point to a 3 country setup and not the root cause which are the players themselves?

So what can be done about it?

A two-sided system would surely remove the gang-banging, but even then I'll venture a guess that sometimes, you'd end up with one country far outnumbering the other side and then we'd here lopsided complaints as opposed to gangbanging.

Historical plane matchups may or may not work (the depth of current planes probably makes this impossible anyways).  Fighter Ace uses a 5-country setup (GB, US, SU, JP, GE).  Many times it ends up being a two-country slugfest, while the other three countries are ignored and left to do whatever they want.  Or people pick on the country with the lowest number of players, another form of gangbanging.

A four-sided setup might mix it up a little more, but may lend to it's own problems of gangbanging when more than one side starts to pick on a single side.

Any time more than one side concentrates on a single side, you'll probably end up with this kind of problem.  So the best answer may appear to be only two sides; but as I said earlier, you can't win because then you have the lopsided issue.

I have to agree with Westy, it's the players themselves and not the setup that is the biggest cause of gangbangs.  It's up to us to do something about it....which is probably just as diffucult to accomplish as getting HTC to change the setup    I don't think there is any one easy answer.

It is clear to anyone that has played Pacific timezone evenings in the last 2 weeks that there is no parity or balance. This has not been your typical 2 days. This has been going on for ever. They reset. and did it again.
Its just the bully mentality I guess, people like to have other people down.
Saying things to the effect of "They had more people then us one night" is just stupid. This has been going on for a long time.
Dont get me wrong. Its not hurting my score, my guys are doing great. But I dont think its fair to expect a 3rd of the pilots to play defence of Germany for several weeks at 43(CDN) dollars a month.
I really love it when HTC guys show up on the gang bang team, dig that a lot.
What ever. Biggest F*** U* in the game. Its deliberate, stupid business decision. But hey. Its their game. I am only one customer.

Fury. They can do anything about it that they want. I have suggested that they escalate the aircraft available to the banged country. Or they could roll back the planes available to the Bangers. They could escalate the kill values to the vulched side so they earn bonus planes faster or lessen the bonuses to the bangers. They could additionaly harden the bases of the banged.
They could make it so the gangbanging couties icons dont work and they cant tell the nationality of the cons they see(all cons not in your county would be one symbol)
They could lessen the fuel multiplier for banged planes, they could inflict random plane malfuncions on the bangers. They could raise random acks all around the banged fields. They could just announce it so it was obviose and undeniable.
SYSTEM: The Knights have been teamed up on for 6 hours.
Harden the HQ of a banged side and remove the 2.5 hrs sillyness.
Give the banged side V2 and V1 sites.
Totaly remove the map from the bangers county
Totaly remove the strat button from the country.
Remove the ability to change fields from the bangers except by ferry flight.
Remove bombers from all their small fields.

Whatever its just imagination.

I have to agree with Pongo on the lack of parity for us Pacific time zoners.  We're usually being hammered and in a poor state.

The only thing that will ever truelly end the gang bangs, is to do away with squads.(not likely). when I played in the ACA there were 4 sides. there tended to be a heavy furball between 2 colors. And a lighter more spreadout fight between the other two. People would pick there country based more on what kind of fight they wanted  then anything else. IMO the 4 country system works better for this reason.

It's when it goes on day after day after day that it gets annoying.  I know some people have switched sides to get out from under the gangbang too..  Sure, sometimes there will be periods where it is 2 on 1, fair enough, but being a Pacific timezone player it doesn't seem to end this tour.  I don't know the answer but there are lots of subtle things that could probably be done to improve the situation.

And the lack of finish from the Rooks and Bish.. you wonder if they really are playing for a reset or just to whittle the Knit down so that all Knit bases are vulches.  I watched the action over A5 last night.  A5 was seperated from any other Knit base by 2 sectors.. still, the ROoks never did capture it.  Either the 1 or 2 Knits that were there made a valiant defense, or the Rooks were totally incompentant and couldn't finish the job, or they wanted it to vulch at to boost their kills.

You make the call.....

This is a fundamental problem with the three country system.

Lets forget who's getting bashed this week it happens to all the countries

Personally I'd prefer a four country system. In Warbirds that normally ended up with two two-way fights with the odd bit of intermingling. Worked better than this three country system IMO, but then what is that worth
