Memorable Quotes
« on: July 15, 2008, 06:41:06 PM »
A thread that could be interesting.  Post your most interesting quotes.

Read this one tonight and it hit home for me.

‘No ones life should be rooted in fear.  We are born for wonder, for joy, for hope, for love, to marvel at the mystery of existence, to be ravished by the beauty of the world, to seek truth and meaning, to acquire wisdom, and by our treatment of others to brighten the corner where we are.’

A simple, yet moving poem for the Marine dead at Tarawa that the men themselves made over the grave yard entrance.

Quote
Here lie these men on their sun scoured atoll,
The wind for their watcher,
The wave for their shroud,
Where palm an pandanus shall whisper forever,
A requiem fitting for heroes so proud

Another moving poem for the men who fought at Tarawa

Quote
You say it's not on the map, my son?
O God, it's engraved on my heard!
That fringe of palm, our approach at dawn,
A Challenge to death, and the hellish spawn
That tore loose our clay at Tarawa!

You want me to tell you about it, my son?
It's an epic of blood and tears!
These sightless eyes and mangled feet
Proclaim our victory and the Japs' defeat
On the charnel-like sands of Tarawa!

Lifeblood the price by which an atoll was won;
Look again-it must be on the map, my son!
Quote
Goto Google and type in "French military victories", then hit "I'm feeling lucky".
Here lie these men on this sun scoured atoll,
The wind for their watcher, the wave for their shroud,
Where palm and pandanus shall whisper forever,
A requiem fitting for heroes
