Now that the week is drawing to a close, anyone have a good "war story" for this week in the Mains?
I'll start.
I logged in on Tuesday night to get some stick time, and check out some of the new skins. A Rook vehicle base on the east side of the map was under heavy pressure from a Knight vehicle attack, and the two nearest airfields had been porked.
I went to the next closest, about 2 sectors away, and rolled out a PBJ-1H (B-25H with the new VMB skin) loaded with 3x1000lb bombs. I climbed to about 5000ft to clear the surrounding ridge and sped south as fast as my engines could get me there, sending out an alert to the beleagered defenders of the base help was coming.
After about 15 minutes the base came into view and I throttled back and entered a shallow dive to shed altitude and begin scanning for the enemy vehicles. I crossed over the base and our own battle line, and soon spotted the attacking enemy. I opened my doors and armed my bombs, and turned for a Panzer anchoring the enemy's right flank. As soon as he disappeared beneath by nose I released my first bomb, pulling out into a hard climbing turn to the left to clear. My egg struck him square and he exploded.
I powered on and wheeled around to the left, until I was now coming right back up the enemy flank. An M4 and another Panzer were sitting right in line along my flight path as I nosed back into my attack run. I dropped first on the Sherman, then on the Panzer. My first egg was on target and the M4 went up in a sheet of flame, but my last bomb fell short. I closed my doors and powered on, then armed by cannon to come around again. However as I reversed the tank slipped behind a tree and I was unable to get a clear shot, my shell exploding harmlessly against the foliage. My second pass was marginally better, and I was able to put a shot into his right tracks. One of the friendlies on the ground dispatched him shortly after.
The enemy returned with reinforcements, this time out in the open where I had a nice clear run. I came in low, my belly scraping the ground as I closed to within 200 yards before firing straight into their engine blocks, and three more Panzers fell to my 75mm, breaking the enemy assault.
