I had good results but, as previously noted, getting the packing taken out feels like the doc is ripping your tongue out through your sinuses

I don't mind three weeks of pain if it means a lifetime of good breathing again. Thanks for the heads up on the packing. Next wednesday is the cat scan, and I get to see how badly my cartiledge is screwed up...

It's miserable surgery. You wake up,and you hurt and can't breathe. You have to breathe through your mouth. You get no sleep at all because every time you nod off, your mouth closes and you wake up.When you go in to half the packing removed,it isn't pleasant, but the instant relief you get is incredible.

I had a deviated septum from a car wreck, and a pretty big polyp was also removed.I did get a noticeable improvement in breathing on both sides though.

I have had the surgery.  It is one of the most miserable I have ever experienced.  The benefits were minimal, and two years later, the septum moved back to it's deviated state on it's own.

My least favorite part was when they pulled the splints that held the septum in place while healing.  The Dr. said. "This is going to hurt a bit."  Well, he was lying, it did not hurt, it was one of the most excruciating pains I have ever experienced.  Those splints were at least an inch wide and an inch and a half tall at there biggest, and they pull the buggers out your nostril...

My advice, don't get it fixed.

Just quit being a sissy... smack it into a turnstyle again to knock it back into place.  If it bleeds, rub some dirt into it.  That'll be $20, you can pay the receptionist on your way out.  ;)

there is a big benefit from breathing through your nose... it humidifies... cleans and filters the air you breathe... so if you're still into sports or active or if you don't want to snore like a cow anymore... i'd get it done.

the doc just basically breaks your nose again and realigns it... so just make sure he is good and has done a lot of them.

took a knee to the nose in a rugby game... so i had it done and it wasn't that bad at all.

Had mine done back in '85.  My septum was deviated from birth.  Never noticed a problem until my parents noted I was gasping for breath when I ate.

Went in to a plastic surgeon for the procedure and had him straighten my nose while he was at it.  (broke it in 3 places to get it straight)

Hurt pretty bad immediately after surgery but only lasted a while.  The worst part was getting the internal splint taken out....big sensation of sucking and feels like your brain is coming out with it.  Plan on being 'out of commission' for a couple of days.

20+ years later the only lingering effect is sometimes my nose whistles when I sleep.  (it wakes me up sometimes, lol)

The fight is the fun........Don't run from the fun!
