Buff issues continued
« on: June 21, 2000, 04:25:00 AM »
I loaded up 1.03 for the first time and found myself at an airfield with no flak left and one lone enemy jap zero buzzing around.  Every time I'd try and take off in a bomber or fighter, this A-hole would strafe the crud out of me!

My solution is this, enable just the top turret on bombers for ground opperations.  Obviously in real life the only person that would be able to defend his parked bomber with any sucess would be the top turret gunner.

Now it wouldn't be enough firepower bring back the days of flak emplacement buffs.  But the two .50's on the top turret is just enough to give a vulcher something to think about and give a buff a fighting chance of getting airborn.

Besides, when ever light flak emplacements are put in place, maybe we can start toneing down the AAA positions around bases and get rid these damned flak huggers.

What do you guys at HTC think?

Major,

You aren't supposed to take off from a de-acked field with enema overhead, the zero was just doing his job.

He was vulching.  Vulching is just something that I don't abide.

There are these damn vulchers and guys who shoot down parachutes, I hate those guys, they have no respect.

Leading by example and encouraging people not to engage in this sort behaviour doesn't seem to be working.  Maybe we need to arm our little pilot dudes with .45 Automatics.

Anyone here ever play JSF?

Here's the problem:
Bombers are very expensive pieces of hardware with highly trained air and ground crews.  Acks are mass-produced guns with smaller and less highly trained crews.
In AH, you can kill an ack and it won't come back for thirty minutes.  If you kill a buff, it can come back immediately.  So, if you allow any gun on the buff to work on the ground, you have the absurd consequence that it's profitable for some idiot to just keep respawning as an ack platform.  That's bad for gameplay.  It gets worse when they decide to strafe troops.
This is why guns were disabled on the ground int he first place.  People would line up in continuously respawning b17s, shooting at anything that came by.
If you want to talk realism, there's no way IRL you'd tell a bomber crew to run into their plane and get off the ground while the field was under attack.
So, if the field's under attack, don't go up in a buff.  That's stupid.  (well, if ALL your fields are under attack, that's a different matter).

Hi All,
Sorry if this is starting to sound like a stuck record but..... As I've said in another Buff thread in this forum. (And many other threads throughout the BB). All guns should be operable even on the ground. You want to stop buffs playing ack kill the Hanger. Just look at buffs as defensive infantry support (There is none in AH). Or/And stop respawning at the battle site after a death (Several minutes would be enough to get the drunks in). Attacking pilots have to fly back to the battle after a death so should the defence.

# The disabling of guns was bought in before you could "close" a field for a very good reason. That reason has now gone. Give em back the means to defend themselves.

Forget kiling the Bomber hangar. Kill it and you get 15 mins. Go for the ammo bunkers. Kill them and no bombers for 30 mins. Plus the bunkers are easier to kill then the B-Hanger.

BTW, who in there right mind would let the bomber off the ground before you try to kill it! On the ground it is not a threat to you. Airborn, it becomes a huge threat.

Most people would do 1 of 2 things,

1.) grab fighter and kill Zero
2.) move to another field

The Zero was capping the field...

A fighter stands even less of a chance than a bomber.  If you don't want to deal with buffs hit the buff hangar.

Give us poor buff pilots the means to nail these a-holes.

Taking down a field has become too simple, just take down the ack, vehicle hangar and vulch.

Hell, I'd perfer to have less low level AAA and allowing straffing, just let me have a buff with a few guns.  I dont mind if people strafe me in a fighter, but buffs would realistically be able to defend themselves.
