(HT, PYRO) Ok another idea, how about trade off............
« on: March 30, 2000, 01:26:00 PM »
I saw in another post where Fishu said we need to lower the alt for buffs. After reading it I got an idea. Ok here it is, how about we trade off things on the 17 for other things, like let me give an example: Ok lets say we lower the max alt on the B17 to 25k, this would make it easier for fighters to get to the Starto 17's, but in exchange for the alt we raise the damage the .50 cals give out, that way the buff has a much better chance of surving.

What do you think? It's an idea that we could start on. I mean we could hold a pilot vote to see. I mean thats fair isn't it?

Anyway I have more whining to do   so I'll leave it at that.

Beef, I disagree (for once).

Lowering max ALT is fine by me....I havn't got the stamina to climb a B17 to 35k anyway.

However, upping the power of .50s isn't the answer.  It's like RangerBob said in another post.......we never get to fly damaged B17s....cos it's ping - zoom back to tower.  Making the wings + tail of B17s much, much stronger is more like the answer.......they'll still go down to a good fighter pilot but it's the way they go makes the difference.

Instead of the (now famous) ping - zoom back to tower, we'd get dead engines, missing control surfaces, fuel leaks.....yeah mate, much more fun.

Note:  Also increase pilot health.....how the hell a fighter kills the pilot of a B17 when shooting from behind is beyond me anyway.

Anyway, the vote's a good idea. :-)

hehehehe so you liked my other Idea heheheh well I didn't say we had to raise the .50 cal damage, I mean we could raise armor up. IF anyone else has some other ideas post em. Oh and I think the vote idea is neat, I mean the plane may not be right, but if everyone agrees then all are happy if ya know what I mean.

back in version .45 or so I used to routinely rtb with a fair amount of battle damage.  I couldna begin to count the times I rtb'ed with missing control surfaces and dead engines.
I think my most memorable landing was w/ engines 1 and 3 out, both ailerons and one elvator shot off, and the left main gear gone.  Did a real nice ground loop when the left wingtip dug in (dinnae why I dinnae think to land gear up =)

I miss those days, it was a challenge to bring the bird home.

Im not for making changes to the game that makes the game more of a "fantasy" .  Give me the real flight data, the real damage data.

If bombers altitide are a problem I would rather see it handled in another fashion, like making bomber airfields farther back, thereby making bombers in the air longer to target giving fighters a better opportunity to react to them, maybe adjust the strategic tragets on the map by making them deeper in friendly territory or adjust radar that you get a different symbol on the radar for targets above 30k.  This are just off the top of my head, I dont claim they can fix the problem totally, just help alleviate it some.

sigh

down the slippery slope to unrealism we go for every "gameplay" improving modification we make that is contrary to documented performance, survivability and lethality.

The real slippery slope is not having fun... If you go with total realism on everything it would be boring for a good portion of you "hotsticks". Most would have less then 5 kills in a four year period and would never want to play it. Most would get killed and have to open another account. On occassions you would fly all night and never see an enemy. Finding a fight by onboard radar never existed. Some days you would come in and you would be grounded because the weather was to bad. Another time your plane would not preform the way it did last sortie due to random mechanical problems or your guns might jam in a dogfight. Couldn't defend a field by respwning fighters because you would be dead and not able to get in the game. GAMEPLAY "IS" A VALID PART OF THE FLIGHTSIM WORLD AND NOT A "SLIPPERY SLOPE".

hehe Salute! Wasn't meaning to be nasty! I really like as much realism as we can get too, it enhances the experience! The bottom line is we "ALL" should have as much fun as we can and I really feel that is at the heart of what drives HiTech Creations anyway.  I hope that the "Supreme GOD's of Aces High","The Grand PhooBar's of the Flight Sim universe","The most exalted creators of online aviation cyberspace technology.... of whom "none of us are worthy"!(Suck up .... Suck up... hehe) will listen a wee bit.
