Aux-fuel seeking 88mm shell or inflight fire?
« on: August 26, 2000, 06:37:00 PM »
Three times in a row, I was in a B17 at 16k, and started taking flak near the HQ.

Each time, the first thing hit was "Aux Fuel", and less than one minute later the plane explodes.  Was I directly hit in the exact same fuel tank again by flak, or is there a countdown before the plane just explodes?

I mention the latter because I was in a N1K, and nailed an enemy B17's fuel tank (it was streaming white vapor).  Just me and him.  I extended out to D3.2, and then he just exploded.  No one else was around, and there was no ack that I could see.

If you ever see fire (via external view) on your B17 then bail immediately.  I am talking fire and not smoke mind.  Your plane will just explode at no set time, so get out whilst you can!

BTW, if you keep doing light jinks then the Flak will nearly always miss.
