Never thought I'd agree with Barney Frank on anything.

House Resolution 5843, titled the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act of 2008

Frank and Ron Paul are the sponsors of the bill.

I say it's probably past time to run up the white flag and surrender in the government's war on marijuana. Didn't think I'd say that either.

I think it is similar to Prohibition. The people have spoken. Instead of bathtub gin we have backyard MJ. It's become an industry for the local coppers, flooded the jails to no purpose and the arrests haven't stopped any doper that I know.

Time to support this bill as well as the energy one.

Shit, maybe we are starting to have a Congress. It could happen you know.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Yep, Marijuana should be legal.  The attempts to win this drug war ruin more lives than they save.  Cops die for nothing, people get records for nothing, etc.  It just doesn't make any sense.

While I am not a hop-head, I do think it has been a stupid law and fruitless effort.  People who want weed are going to get it.  People are going to sell it as long as there is a market for it.  So far, it's slimballs, crooks, and narco-terrorists who benifit.

Taking it out of their market and undercutting the price after legalization would put part (a relatively small part) of that mafia out of business.

Tax it.  Control it.  Make people apply for a card (like a movie rental card) to buy it.

Just make sure if it get's into the hands of kids that it carries the same fine as buying booze for kids.

No convicted felons should be able to buy it.

When the law was written to outlaw marijuana it was done in order to justify the need for a drug enforcement agency. The first director knew he had his hands full when he stopped on the Potomac bridge and could see hemp growing as far as the eye could see.

Why?  Are you afraid they'll all of a sudden spend Saturday night at home on the couch?

Convicted felons lose privileges.  It's all part of life in America.

Not a pot smoker, never have been but when the law punishes potheads with long sentences and gives violent offenders parole or a fine the priorities are screwed.
