DirectX
« on: July 29, 2008, 12:37:47 PM »
Folks,

How do I completely uninstall DirectX  and then reinstall from a trusted site?     I'm having some serious issues trying to get the game to work.

Normally, you'd be screwed in trying to get rid of DirectX as MS doesn't add any sort of uninstall for it.  However, there are a few 3rd party programs that will allow you to uninstall it.  You can download one of them from Major Geeks and use it to uninstall DirectX.

After you've uninstalled it, reboot your machine and when it boots back into windows, go Microsoft DirectX page to download DirectX.  You may have to do a bit of navigating to get to the DirectX 9c runtime client.  A shorter way is if you have any recent boxed games which should have DirectX 9c on the install disks.  You can also install DirectX 9c that way as well.

Why are you thinking DirectX would be the issue?

Skuzzy,
Tried calling for you today but Carrie said you were busy.      I would have to explain this over the phone to you.   The game sometimes works and other times it doesn't.     If for some reason I have to re-start my computer or have a power failure I have one heck of a time trying to get into the game.   Its almost like something has not loaded at boot up and then I can't play the game at all.    I don't even get to the log in screen.    I'm about ready to uninstall the game and then reinstall it and see if that works

Does Direct 3D have anything to do with the game?       I am running  GeForce 8800GT extreme Gamers vid card.

Direct3D is the 3D graphics API for DirectX.

If you will send me a DXDIAG output with a description of the problem, I might be able to find something there.

I'd be checking my power supply and temperature of my VC, MB, and CPU also.

Something not quite right here... DX9.0c is the latest version and has been around for a long time and your system shouldn't be updating DX.  I assume that you are running XP instead of WISHTA.

Hey fellas and thanks for responding.        Yes I am running Windows XP.              I reinstalled my vid card drivers off of my install disc and the game works.     Who knew?

I have no idea why reinstalling the vid card worked but it did.

Sometimes video drivers become corrupt and need to reinstall them.

DirectX does not update itself and is not the cause of your older game not running occasionaly.

Ok Fellas I found out what the problem was.    I was running drivers from 1/9/2008 for my vid card.   Evidnetly they were corrupted somehow.    I uninstalled them and reinstalled drivers off of the Nvidia website and I can now log off and on the game at will with no issues.
