Killer Trees
« on: August 08, 2008, 01:48:51 AM »
So I overshot the road trying to land a 190F-8 at a v-base and ended up in the trees.  With a little bit of maneuvering, I just had to make it around one tree in order to taxi back to the asphalt and "land."  Woe to me, I caught my wing on the tree. :lol  "Hmmm, I'm stuck, I'm not moving.  Maybe if I give it a little bit of throttle I can rip the wing off or something, and in the worst case I'll ditch."  As soon as I touched the throttle my landing gear broke off  :huh and then I was dead. :noid

Something similiar, came into field a little fast so thought I'd just go ahead and
practice an emergency landing. Overshot runway so I viewed a path across to the
main hangar "concrete" area. Tore up the rudder and ailerons as I bounced off the
grass, and was really trying for a no-ditch landing. Went off the concrete back into
the grass, and with no way to turn the plane back around normally, thought it was just
another crappy ditch-landing untill I remembered to use the wheel-brakes. Barley did
that though since the tail was dragging on the ground! Did manage to drag it back
       onto the runway though. :aok

Sorry, the throught didn't occur to me to film such a spectacular event like a 190F-8 in the trees. :P  If it had I would've posted it.

true.

i haven't been on in awhile, so i popped into the TA last night. first off, i like the new terrain there.

i learned 4 lessons there last night.

1) the gound is hard
2) the water is hard too
3) the trees are just as hard as the ground and water
4) don't mess with widewing in his F4F

I saw a whole mission of Hellcats ,about 20 myself included. Crashed into a mountain. Planes were captured by squirrels. Hilarious and sobering all at the same time ;( :uhoh
