That was a hell of a lot more than I expected. Some of us have been asking for something different, and you've gone above what I thought you would.
New gunnery modes have been added for the guns with range sighting. Default keys are key "Q" for direct mode, key "W" for land mode and key "E" for sea mode. These keys will have to be mapped using the Key Mapping utility.
Direct mode - player controls gun completely.
Land mode - gun will shoot to the selected point regardless of the ship's movement.
Sea mode - gun will shoot to a point relative to the movement of your ship.
Direct mode sounds like what we have now. You do all the aiming yourself.
Land mode seems to me that the turret will autotrack the aim point range and bearing counters for you. You can put shell after shell into the same hole, even from 30 miles away. Awesome for bombardment, though you need a second man for an observer.
Sea mode took me a while to figure out what that means. I assume that the turrets freewheel independant from the ship's own movement. That is, the bearing of your turret remains the same if your ship maneuvers under you.
Again, thanks you guys. This makes sea combat a full deal now, complete with amphibious operations.
Now we just need some 2D treelines and for the army to play around in and you can have a game to rival WW2 Online for it's scope.
