Times when you just have to trust the pilot
« on: August 08, 2008, 05:24:17 PM »
Tioman Island , Off the coast of Malaysia

Wake Island, Pacific Ocean

Macao Intl Airport

Kuujjuaraapik, Quebec

A rock, off the  coast of Greenwood (Canadian Military)

This photo was taken by a soldier in Afghanistan of a helo rescue mission.
The pilot is a PA National Guard guy who flies EMS choppers in civilian life.

Now how many people on the planet you reckon could set the bellybutton end of a
chopper down on the roof top of a shack, on a steep mountain cliff, and hold
it there while soldiers load wounded men in the rear. If this does not impress
you... nothing ever will.
If it can't get there on it's own, leave it at home!!

i like that last one. i also think that that was increible "on the fly" thinking. i also think that that crew probably got themselves chewed out severly for doing that...

I've done missions were we had to egress the helo that had one skid on a mountain peak.  These were hueys granted but scary to say the least.
