FSO Map editor

Hello All
This week will be the 353Rd's first CIC and of course we have a couple of questions.
1. What is the map program that is used to create FSO maps, including the icons for carrier, country flags etc?
2.  Is there a method for doing a dry run of the plans in accelerated speed?  Say 2x or 4x?

1. Any image editor will work, Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Gimp, even MS Paint.
2. No. There is no Time acceleration in Aces High.
