unable to download skins
« on: August 03, 2008, 02:11:11 AM »
Old computer went down, so we bought a new one. I have most everything going ok, but I am unable to download any skins. I do it manually because quite frankly I do not need all of them. Yes, it is Vista. I have the game set up to run as administrator and that was how I loaded it as well. I can pick the skins from the download page, click save, get to x86 program files, HTC, aces high, then click skins folder.

It shows them downloading and going into the folder, but when I get into the game they are not there. SoI go look in the program files again and it will only show "skins.res" 72Kb. Anybody got any ideas?  Am I not doing something correctly in the download process?

Thanks, for any help you can give.

I had the same problem. A helpful squaddie showed me this way:
Download the skins you want into my documents. Then open up a window for skins. Next drag them to the skins file.

Chalenge,

My bad, I loaded game as administrator, set it to run as administrator all the time. I can find the files no problem it's just that they are not getting to where they should be. And its frustating  :furious
I am now auto loading in background, I'm not happy about this as it takes up space, and I'll never use all the skins but it the only way I have found to get what I need.

Next up is going to be sounds, I am planning on saving a sound pack to downloads file then place it in aces high. I'm  :pray this works ok.

There is another possible solution.  Do not install the game in the "Program Files" folder.  That avoids all the UAC headaches in Vista and might solve your problem.

So after auto downloading skins, they are exactly where I tried to put them WTF!! :furious. So I think to myself well I'll just stick my sounds in place of the AH sound pack. I open up AH folder and all thats there is a text file that is named "cleaned" nothing else??????? I rename it, delete it, copy and paste from my old documents the sound pack I want, guess what?? I still have the old sounds  :furious. Obviously the HTC folder is in more that 1 place but I cannot find it, I even used Skuzzy's tips and tricks to type in the path and NADA. Guess I'm stuck with stock sounds  :frown:

The sound system in Aces High II changed.  The individual sound files we used to ship are now in one resource file named "sounds.res" in the root installation folder for the game.

When you add custom sounds, they will over-ride the default sounds.
