4- An intense bomber mission being chased after by nothing but 262's.
Was that you? ;-)
Yesterday some Bishops launched a half dozen B-17 formations out of A143 in the Blue Arena, climbed out to like 20k, and headed west into Nit country. Three of us saw the darbar in the middle of the island and knew it could mean only one thing, and launched 262s to intercept. My squadmate WormZilla and I downed 5 bombers each, and oTimmyo downed 2 or 3 before he saddled up on a B17 and got himself killed. We were dodging Pony escorts the entire time. I believe the rest of the B-17s were eventually cleaned up by Nits who launched and intercepted in other planes over and near the target area. Good times!
Of my 10 joys in Aces High is downing another 262 while flying a 262. Thought about rationally, that shouldn't be
that big of a deal, but when I've done it I was on cloud 9.
Another joy is killing a pristine and turning CV group with a set of AR234s. A CV requires 8000 lbs of bombs to kill, and an AR234 formation with three 500kg bombs per bird is carrying 9900 lbs, which basically requires a direct hit from all the bombs of all three birds to kill it.
Another joy, though I feel ashamed of myself every time I've done it, is killing a formation of AR234s in a 262. I fly the 234 a fair bit myself, and I know that when you're cruising around at 425 indicated or whatever the max speed is, you get this feeling of invulnerability. Nothing, but nothing pops that balloon quite like the sight of an enemy 262. It's a feeling of dread, a sinking feeling, a feeling of "oh sh**". And it's almost a dick thing to do to impose that feeling on someone else. Still, when I'm up in a 262 and spot a flight of 234s, I just can't help myself. Muahahahahahaha!
Oh yeah, one more joy. Killing a Tiger in a T34. That's another cloud 9 thing.
