Oh yeah, do it with 3-4 a/c and you will split anti aircraft fire   Hehe we'll heard things like: "die kamikaze-dweeb"

Jokes apart, warships *were* vulnerable to conventional air attacks (dive and torpedo). So the ack-ack should not be 100% lethal and accurate, at least above 3-4K.

Ah! I'm definitely a dweeb at it. But skilled pilots like Torque can dance between 20mm and 40mm tracers. Dont ask me how. The thing I hate most are 88's, tho.

Yes Wobble, but to drop a torp successfully you must be flying straight and level and below 150ft (or 100ft) depending on torpedo country of origin.

To avoid being hit by AAA in AH, you must be constantly turning in a single direction. If you even cut back to opposite direction, that split second of time where you are straight, will get you killed about 75% of the time.

I guess we will get to find out later today.

Currently I can dance with the ack in a chog or a La5 and kill it all with guns.  I somehow doubt I will be able to do the same thing over the fleet.  I think those 5" guns will vaporize anything that loiters too long.  Hmm I wonder which guns the AI will control....

Gatt pure speculation on my part (and many others based upon the "talk" in the arena last night) based upon the last line in Pyro's Ramblings post yesterday.

Of course with all those AA guns.....as in TWENTY FOUR 40mm Bofors and TWELVE 5 inch guns on the Baltimore cruisers.(firing radar fused proximity warheads where it just has to be close)......I severerly doubt you will be able to get that close to a ship to ram it.

Hans.

In AH only the bombs do any damage, and the several thousand pounds of plane attached to them don't do anything.

As for the accuracy of the guns, it's a mixed bag. I'm not sure what to make of the reports I've read.

For example, when the US destroyers Bush and Colhoun were attacked by kamikazes on April 6, they shot down 12 kamikazes, and took 4 and 3 hits respectively.  The Colhoun hit 3 of the successful kamikazes, but the planes were so close they still impacted on the ships.  Two kills were accomplished with 5" guns. Both ships were lost.

I contrast this with the US attack on the Japanese super-battleship Yamato. That beast had over 100 anti-aircraft guns from 25mm to huge 155mm.  She also had cruiser and destroyer support in a 10-ship flotilla.  In the first wave, 6 US torpedo planes dropped torps against the ship and flew OVER the ship after the drop without getting shot down!!  I don't know HOW you can pull off flying that low and straight around a field in AH without getting torn to shreds.

In the end, the Yamato was attacked 3 times, took 5 bombs and 10 torps before she went down.  Her massive AAA batteries (and those of here escorts) only accounted for 3 Hellcats, 4 Helldivers, and 3 Avengers.  That's pretty piss poor.

Oh i dunno.... you don't mention how many US planes attacked Yamato all told but 15 hits vz 10 planes shot down ain't all bad if ya ask me...  A little aircraft is much harder to hit than a big fat dreadnought.
