The movie is not making fun of 'morally sacred' things or of retarded people. The movie is poking fun of Hollywood excess and in this particular case of Ben Stiller's character staring in the movie Simple Jack is poking fun at actors that use movies like this to garner awards, like Dustin Hoffman did for Rainman. It's is so clear that's the intent if you watch the movie, I am amazed that so called intellectual elite have a hard time grasping the concept of satire.
