Ironically, the only reason I feel I have this job is because of affirmative action. They needed some one older to meet the quota. These brats when I first got there, with 20 years of experience, thought i was there personal assistant. They wanted me copy files, put files away, and get them reports from the printer. It's humiliating!! I went to their boss and he agreed with me. He was outraged! Most of it stopped.

I graduated with my bachelors at 36 and just could not find a job for nothing. It was the most depressing time of my life. Since I couldn't find a job my wife left me.

I do things these young ones don't have a clue about. Every now and then you can see the astonishment on their faces.

The only thing I know to do is keep on keeping on. Right now I'm thinking about doing taxes on the side with HR Block. Yeah, not my favorite company either. However, they pay well and I have a lot to offer. I'm pretty good at taxes. Don't know everything but I can hold my own.

I did work for myself in the cut throat high tech industry. You work 24/7 to get the the job done for them yesterday besides trying to line up the next job. The government nickels and dimes you. All the perks company employees get comes out of your pocket. Vacation. What is that.
take this post over to www.flamewarriors.net where we can dissect it at length with no worries about moderation.

Ten years ago I found my self unemployed & over qualified for every position I interviewed for.  I finally realized I was in deep do-do when the second HR type said "I would like to have your unemployment check for a salary.  Frustration & grief was mine, I finally went back to another occupation that I swore I would never do again.  Sorta rough when you are pass 50.  Keep the faith.    :aok  :noid

I don't know what they make. I don't make much and I have a Masters degree. I'm glad they are getting a good start in work. I think a lot of it is healthcare costs. Older workers get seriously sick more.

Yea but younger workers call OUT sick more...much more.
I'll take a 54 year old over a 20 year old any day of the week.

My oldest hire was 78 years old.
And he could still kick some arse working.
I just wish I coulda kept him longer

Reading the posts in this thread I can see why so many of you are against the workers right to organize...

Then what happens is if your not in that particular union. No matter how experienced you are. a guy with no experience yet is a union member will get the job ahead of you.
