If your only defense is, "I see others get away with it", then you have no defense. If you do not use the "Report to moderator" link available to every bulletin board subscriber, then the only one you should be complaining to is yourself.
When you make the choice to disregard the forum posting rules, you should be more than willing to accept the consequences.
