Again...
I agree though that is a poor welcome, and that gag may get a player booted from the TA.

Understood Murdr, but...

How many new people actually visit (or even know about) the TA?  Having some jerk booted from the TA has absolutely nothing (in my opinion) to do with them in any of the Main Arenas.

It seems that everyone just wants to jump into one of the Main Arenas (most likely LW 'cuz they want to fly the P51 or some other "famous" warbird). It's been my experience that the LW people seem to be the most vocal and abusive "elitist a-holes" in the game.  I don't fly LW much, and I'm sure there are a lot of great human beings there, but the time I've spent there (and here on the forums) reading what people say and seeing how they act, leads me to my previous statement.

It's been my experience that the LW people seem to be the most vocal and abusive "wannabe-elitist a-holes" in the game.  I don't fly LW much, and I'm sure there are a lot of great human beings there, but the time I've spent there (and here on the forums) reading what people say and seeing how they act, leads me to my previous statement.

Had to fix something for you...  9/10 people being jerks on a consistent basis don't have a clue themselves what they're doing.  They're the 9th graders that made friends with an 11th grader and are trying to be "cool like them."  They aren't worth your time, trouble, or respect.

Now, OTOH...  The 1/10 kinda guys might just be doing you a favor...  It took both Vader & Obi Wan to mold Luke, after all.

Thanks for clearing that up, Vudak.  I had meant "Elitist" as an attitude, not a quality of skill.  :D

This one actually asked for help too...  shame he's gone.  Could've been a good stick.   :salute
There was once a saying that goes "If you put an infinite amount of monkeys in a room with an infinite amount of typewriters, eventually they will produce something worth reading."

The internet has proved this wrong.

One arena is intended for training, the others are intended for open gameplay.  What is appropriate and expected for one does not always apply to the other  ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the furball area in the DA.

It isn't fair to assume that anyone, let alone everyone, knows what Alt-F4 does in windows.  I'm fairly computer saavy, and I never ever ever use Alt-F4 to shut a running program down.  As far as I know, Alt-F4 is more a tool for folks who are doing something they probably shouldn't be doing while at their desk at work, Alt-F4 to dump the game when the boss comes around.

You may view the Alt-F4 as an harmless "gag", but put yourself in the shoes of a new player.  You've been online for a bit, crashing and/or being shot down repeatedly.  You ask a question that some tool thinks you should already know the answer to and you get fed the Alt-F4 gag.

May seem harmless, but is it really one more frustration heaped upon a two weeker that HTC wants?  It was my understanding that the end goal for HTC is that those two weekers actually pay a subscription at some point.

I say perma-ban, make it widely known that it is ban worthy.  The issue goes away.

Will never happen.  Two weeker Vs, Subscriber, do the math.  but I like the idea.

Unfortunately, you're probably right.  It's far too difficult to quantify how many two weekers never subscribe because of the butt head treatment they recieved.  I would wager that given a more proactive training system and a more friendly noob enviroment would net more profits though.

I'm sure HTC has a sure hand on how many stay as oppose to how many leave. If there was a problem, he would take steps to fix it. When the single arena was causing people to quit in droves, he fixed it by spliting the arenas. If newbs are quiting because they are being treated badly we would get full time mods.

Just because you fell for the "alt-f4" a half dozen times before you figured out it was you dumping you to the desktop, not your computer isn't any reason to come in here a talk about "perma-bans".   :devil

Personally being a U.S.M.C. vetran, I think "alt f-4" adds realism to the game. Kinda like your first day in the fleet marine force, (lvt's),...getting sent on a radio repair mission for a vehicle,  " priv, run down to the comm shack , and get me a can of squelch grease, would ya?... tell em cpl so and so, sent ya"........ dont get no mo real n that. ;)  :D

I've seen a few that I would have liked to alt/F4, but like what has been said earlier we all had to learn.  Harmless play is one thing, but you would think that after having his head handed to him a couple times :cry the individual would ask for help :pray or go to the tutorial section and/or training to accquire some experience.  I have noiced that there is more activity in the training & dueling areas since the closing of the "FREE ZONE".  Possibility some of those ***-** bought the same habits from H2H into the pay side.   :noid  :salute

Now, don't go bad mouthing us H2Hers :devil

H2H was an entirely different environment, and you would be surprised how much people asked and learnt there.
There weren't 150 people listening to every silly thing you said, and more often than not all questions were answered. And yes we did have a few ALT+F4 guys, but even amongst eight people there was usually somebody who replied correctly.
Its surprising to me that when a newb question is raised, out of 150 people online, a few answer "ALT+F4", maybe one or two answer "Go to training area" (which we all know no ones gonna do at that point), and almost never does someone ever say: "You do that by  ________; you should try the training area, it really helped me a lot".

Of course as stated already if you don't know what ALT+F4, Win, Win+D, Win+M, Win+Shift+M, CTRL+ALT+DEL etc etc. do then imho you need to learn a bit about windows first... :devil
