Weird blue screen issue
« on: August 16, 2008, 11:36:08 AM »
Skuzzy Ive played the game for over a year with no real problems. Heres the order of whats happening. The other night I shutdown and loaded some auto updates. Then I played for 2 or 3 days with no issues. Last night I got a blue screen when enterring a battle scene. I shutdown, restarted, flew a P-38 with no problems, and then got a screen freeze when I flew over a CV to bomb it. Now? Today? I was able to fly some sorties with no problems and then got blue again. When I ran Dxdiag the program froze and I got some kind of Direct Show message when I restarted it,that it couldnt be accessed, and had to do an end around of direct show to run DXdiag.

So I did. Heres the results, and thanks for any help.------------------

The DirectShow issue is with the NVidia drivers.  NVidia has had a terrible time getting thier Vista drivers stable.  That is where I would start.  Use a different version of the drivers.

Be very careful when you allow Vista to update.  It really is not safe to assume the updates will not cause problems.

Thanks Skuzz. I was already on it and updated both my DirectX and NVidia drivers. Afterwards flew 3/4s the night with no problems. Hopefully thats the end of it.

Try deleting your video8.cfg file Rich, maybe the updates mullered it.......(always the first thing I try now)

I'm the worst pilot ingame ya know!!!

It's all unrealistic crap requested by people who want pie in the sky actions performed without an understanding of how things work and who can't grasp reality.

Thanks Wurz. I'll try that if I have to.

First I tried the "1st rule of digitial video" when having issues with hardware. I uninstall the driver, pulled out/re-seated the video card, and then re-installed the driver. So far so good. It was strange for such a stable system to have those kinda crashes and many times all those cables attached to cards will screw up their connections.

Anyway it seems to have worked. We'll see.

Well the end to this poetic drama is I put my old Radeon el cheapo that came with the puter in. It was rock solid, so I went out and bought a Radeon 4850. So far its been rock solid. Im done with NVidea. Maybe it was the drivers but I think the card itself fried out after only 8 mos.

Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and just replace the componant.

Biggest issues ever for Vista are NVidia and Creative drivers in my experience and that is echoed in several forums on the net.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

rich dont lose faith in NVIDIA. they have the better video cards out on the market right now. however no video card likes to work to well with VISTA. VISTA is what was screwing up your video card. however if you think the video card was trash after 8 months you can always send it to NVIDIA for a test and if it was fried i believe they can send you a new one. I am running the game off the NVIDIA 8800 ultra and it does GREAT.

hard lesson learned here never just download new updates always take the time to read them first. then ok them one by one. Salute
