Help with express card PLZ!!!
« on: September 12, 2008, 10:27:36 PM »
Alright so I bought the creative sound blaster x-fi express card slot sound card.  I am having trouble with it though.  I put it in my express card slot yet when it clicks it doesnt power up.  I have to physically push it in more for it to power up but I have to hold it there for it to stay powered.

Any ideas why this may be the case?

Is this because the card isnt right?  I mean it clicks and stays but it isnt far enough for it to stay powered.

do you have screws to hold the card in after it's set?

Some systems use a clip type system?

After you set the card and SECURE it with a screw or clamp it should stay put?????

Do you have another slot you can try it in?
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Wrag Im not sure what you mean by screws and clips.

Im also not sure exactly what you mean by how to secure it.....

I have a PCI card slot and PCI express card slot.

They did include a clip that extend the card from /34 to /52 or whatever the 2 sizes are.  It doesnt make a difference in helping it stay in.

You have a PCMCIA slot.  PCI and PCI Express are for desktop computer motherboards.

The top one is express card.

Without being there to see if you're somehow "doing it wrong", I'd say you have either a defective card or a defective slot.  Push in the slot cover and shine a light in there to see if any pins are bent over...  If not, then maybe see if another card works any better.  If a replacement card does the same thing then you might have a defective or broken slot or card retention mechanism.

If kinda afraid thats not the case as I cant afford to send this laptop back to the company.  Being without a computer in my dorm at college for 4 weeks is not something I can afford to test.

He meant to return the card for a new one, not the laptop. All you can do with the laptop is inspect what the internals look like by pushing it open and having a look, like he said. If some pins are bent, you can try using some sort of tool to gently ease them back.

The problem is that I did try the card in a friend's laptop and it works fine.  Dont have to push it any farther or what not.

I have been contacting the manufacturer and the person that I have been in contact with sent me an email earlier today saying they will speak to the supervisor and get back to me to see if there is a possible defect in the slot.

Well waited 2 days for a response and finally got it.  They want me to ship it back to them for to inspect and fix.
