Unable to use 6 Degrees of Freedom
« on: August 31, 2008, 01:27:07 PM »
I was playing IL2 with track ir and came over to aces high. IL2 doesn't have 6 DOF in head movement normally but with a Mod I use it does I don't know if this is relevant. I don't usually use track ir in aces high because i like my presets. Well when i was looking around with hat switch it was reacting like my track ir software was still running, I was unable to move my head side to side with arrows,up,down or forward and back. Even with Track ir I am unable to get side to side forward to back motion.
i tried reloging, reinstalling both the track ir software and aces high with no success. When i uninstalled i deleted HTC folder in program files thinking this would get rid of any game save files but after reinstall i still have GUI set my pasword remembered etc. I don't know much about PC'S but i think if i can delete that and do a clean install it might work. I also looked in the registry to see if there was a HTC file there to delete with no luck. I appreciate any advice you guys give me. Thanks <S>.

PS I run Vista Home Basic

Hm.  I have XP, but as long as TrackIR is running when I fire up AH it seems to detect it automatically.  You may want to check the 'combat flight' profile under trackIR and make sure everything is kosher there.  I'm not at home right now, I'll check tonight and see if I can offer more help then.

I am able to use track ir im just not getting side to side movement or forward to back up and down and rotation.
I still can look around though. And it is working fine in Il2,Lock on,and Flight Sim X.
If anybody knows how to delete all saved files in vista after uninstalling Aces High, I think that may do the trick after a clean install.
Thanx <S>

Forgive me if you did this already, but I just looked.  When you open TIR, and double click on the 'combat flight' profile, you should see a window come up with the title "Combat Flight".  If you click on the "motion" tab, are the boxes all checked in the enabled column?

Yeah they are all checked. I'm getting full head range motion in all other sims. Even when not running Track IR in Aces High I am unable to move to preset positions using arrows.
Thanks for the input though <S>

Well I got it working again I still don't know the techinal issues that occurred I just did a clean install using Skuzzy's method for Windows Vista. Set the properties to Run as Administrator so now what ever files that were causing the problem are not even looked at. If anybody knows more about this I still will be checking here. I want to know how to delete all those hidden files. I bet if I did another install the normal way I'd end up with all my old settings and this issue again.
 Thanx again <S>

EDIT Alright I'm back to square one I was able to move my head with arrows without Track Ir so I assumed it would be alright, I tried using track ir and can't move side to side. I turned track ir off and I'm unable to use arrows to move side to side. Even with another reinstall it doesn't work. But when I uninstall Aces High and reinstall it I still don't lose any settings.

I fixed it. I'm posting this for anybody who comes across this problem.
I backed up my control settings for my Saitek uninstalled my track ir software and Aces High 2 and deleted the HTC file in program files then rebooted my computer.
Once rebooted I reinstalled Aces High 2 using Skuzzy's Vista Administrator method and was able to use arrow keys to move head side to side in game.
Then I pasted my Saitek control settings back in the HTC folder where it belonged and tested in game again. The problem was back. I then deleted that file out of the folder and the problem went away again.
I haven't tested Track IR back in the game yet because I prefer presets anyway but I am confident it will work as long as I just manually redo my controls.
Thanx to all that have thought on this and <S>.
