All hail perk points!
« on: January 02, 2001, 07:16:00 AM »
Perk points are devilishly ingenious invention, nice one HTC! Now there is real reason to fly weaker and unpopular planes and many seems to be doing it, it would be interesting to see how much more popular MC.202 and Bf 109F-4 has become after 1.05! I'm also quite sure that more people try to land their missions which adds up to more realistic arena and more fun, atleast for me.

I think perk points are and could be more than award for flying mediocre (or crappy) planes. Perk points can act as bait which could have some impact on community and overall atmosphere of game.

For example some folks want to shoot chutes and some hate it. We could still kill chutes but that would have perk point penalty. If you really really want to shoot someones chute you could do it but perk plane would be bit farther away, lets say 10 or 20 points. This would quite propably lessen the occurrance of chute shooting and whining and cursing in CH 1.

Maybe every curse word written in CH 1 could lower your perk points by one? This is not cencorship but way to encourage people not to use foul language.

I bet there is other ways to use perk points to direct player behaviour. Bad or nasty actions could be penalized and good and nice actions rewarded.

Also, idea ofr awarding perk points for winning the war is essential to implement! Now there is no sense to win a war, all you do is lose land and bases and I have witnessed many times that players don't want to cause reset because they are actually penalized by doing that.

How about giving every member of winning country some sum of perk points or dividing fixed sum of points to players on winning country (country with few players winning would get more points)? Then there would be incetive to win that has never existed in any online sim! Of course country surfing should be guarded by timer, no more than one country change per day. This way numbers could stay more balanced since folks would not change countries that often.

Those who say that perk points are unfair... Life, and particularly simulated war, is unfair! Pilots who fly and practice a lot should have some reward for their efforts.

I think the perk point system is going to be a wonderful thing, it's helped me find my lost love of the A6M5, the LA-5 and a few others I haven't flown for awhile.

I used to dislike the idea of perk points, but now i really can see the advantage the system has: Untill perk points, AcesHigh had no real means or incentives to give pilots to encourage better game play, be that flying older planes, getting involved in more aspects of the game, teamwork, you name it. Perk points, in a way, have become the new legal tender of Aces High, and they do have genuine value.

Now if i can work out a scam to convert Perk points into $

Yeah Spat!  Then I could buy.. .uh... a ham sandwich...  well... Ok maybe 1/2 a ham sandwich.  No?  How about a pickle?

Nice to see that the Perk system is being praised a bit now that it has been implemented.

Quite a few folks hated it long before it was implemented and quitted and then came back. Same with padlock and combat trim. Just goes to show that you should not judge before you see. HTC will not ruin the game and they do not device these inventions to ruin players day.

This is music to my EARS!! I have been screaming<not really> for HT to explain to me how a country "wins" a war.  Well, after reading their website more clearly I realized that you win by reseting another country.  Ok, now what gives a country incentive to reset another one?? hmmmmmm?? Do we have country STATS that keep up with resets? No...  Do have anything to measure the success of ones country? No...Perk Points could be the key here.  Give everyone perks across the board and for all categorys.

I think this is the solution for adding strategy to the game, a much needed element.  As of now, we take bases for no other reason than to flex our muscle, however small that may be :>

Jochen.....right on sir.....anything that rewards a pilot for returning with his ride is good ju-ju in my book.  Would even like to see them take it a step further.  For each succesive flight that you return home for landing you could be rewarded more points/perks/or whatever.  I.E.- sortie one landed (2 kills) 100 pts (just an example). Sortie two landed (2 kills) 200pts.  Sortie three landed (2 kills) 400pts....etc.  The more landed sorties you string together, the more you are rewarded.

Just used the simple point scheme above to demonstrate the "concept".  They could stay with the current scoring system (points, etc)
with the addition of the "succesive sorties landing" idea tacked on.....just a thought !!
