Ditches at airfeilds.

Actually very recently I returned from a sortie with a smoking plane. The only damage I had was loss of engine oil. I landed the plane safely square in the center of the runway and hit .ef  Imagine my surprise when it said you have ditched. And believe me I was in the center of the strip with nothing off the blacktop.

If you land on a friendly airfield, you brought your plane home. No I don't think it should count as a ditch .

Visually, I would prefer grass strips.

I remember watching "Piece of Cake" years ago and thinking that the spitfires looked really cool bouncing down the grassy fields in France and England...

My preference would be to rough up various patches of terrain outside of the airfield - make it a chance to land away from the field - might get it down in one piece, might not - as this would add a nifty bit of realism - and then to count any place on the airfield as being 'landed'.

I often get "You have ditched" when I am firmly on the paved runway, which is no way to go out!
