OP wishes the same as me...I wish I'd look at my fuel gauge once-in-a-while and have the strength-of-will to start back to base before fuel runs out.  :D

Or perhaps he was referring to the fact that sometimes we stay up long enough for the odds to finally catch up to us and get shot down trying for "just one more kill".   :P

Last time up in one I had 5 kills and then ran into a bomber I was trying to down. (hate it when that happens).
The time before that I ran out of fuel on the way back to the field.

It would be neat to have an indicator to tell you when you are down to a certain amount of fuel, but I don't think that was available at the time.
