Game Issues and Views.
« on: September 28, 1999, 05:09:00 PM »
So far I am very happy. The best thing I can say is that I flew for over two hours, two red beacons, NO DISCOS.

Well, playing around, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE VIEW ABILITY.

And maybe with practice Right Handed folks can use them while performing ACM.

I personally had to put my Keyboard to the left, and fly with my right.

It is hard to press up to three keys and fly to get the views.

I will keep practicing.

I have a trackball mouse, and I think it would be great to use the trackball or mouse to control head movement.

Tough nut to crack.

I also have a Logitech Wingman Force Feedback USB Joystick.

I know that FF is something for the Future but of my immediate concern is the hat switch, and 9th Button.

AH Allows users to configure up to Two 4 Way Hat Switches.

I only have one 8 way hat.

Please hurry the development of the ability to use all 8 directions.

Also there is a 9th Button.  I can only program 8 with AH.

Perhaps you could get reps from the Major Stick Manufacturers, Logitech, Thrustmaster, Saitek, and Even MS to come and help you develop a feature so that AH Auto recognizes the type of stick you have connected.

While flying offline, but connected to the internet, awaiting my Password, I found a bug but could not get it to reproduce.

I locked up my whole computer, In flight, Note Pad, Keyboard Mapper, Hit Cancel.

I had to reboot hard reboot my computer from the O N / O F F Switch.

I would post it on the bug page, but couldn't reproduce it.  Perhaps someone else will read this and figure out how to reproduce it.  I will keep trying.

I was also able to take off with my gear up.

I hit fly.

Pressed a Stick Button and Raised the gear.

Started engine.

Waddled about a bit.

Pressed stick button and lowered gear, and took off.

I had FPS between 35 and 41.

Saw quite a few warps.

Also please someone explain how AutoTrim Speed Functions?  I Know Shift X enables it, but whats the point if you can't set the speed?

Dwontown,
".speed" is not written yet, will be soon, the climbspeed is set to 190 and you need to enter it from auto level to work good. I use contl x and set my speed with the stick. Works good for me and the speed setting is too high right now for the C-47 and the B-17.

Downtown, here is a profile I made for AH. Import it into your wingman profiler. I'm using the Interceptor with 3 8-way hats and 9 buttons, they ALL work if you use the profiler. I'm using hat number 2 for head movement. You may have to edit to your preferences. Does not have throttle or rudder control or a few other things in it.  http://www.simplemind.com/AcesHigh.wgp

BTW this is using GAME DEFAULT keymap!

How do you import it?  Just copy the file into my logitech wingman directory?

Here's a config file for MS Sidewinder Force Feedback users.  Not very fancy, but it does give you the 45 degree angle views.  To see the "high" views vs. level views push the hat switch to the view you want then hit the "D" button which has the 5 from the keypad programmed to it.

I suggest right-clicking and doing a "save target as".  Put it in your X:\Microsoft Hardware\Game Controllers\Profiles folder.

Open the profiler, click the arrow on the second bar on the left. Choose "create New Game Profile"(3rd choice in drop down menu) Make sure "Use Existing Profile" is choosen, then click "Import via File" and then point it to where ever you downloaded the AcesHigh.wgp file to.

Well, I could get to the file into the wingman profiler, but when I attempted to launch AH it closes the game instantly?

how did you get all the ACEs High Commands into the WGP format.  Perhaps I can do this myself?

There are ways to edit commands and such, but I don't get any commands with the standard Aces High Profile?

Perhaps I deleted them all, I tried deleteing and recreating them several times.

If I can just get the commads from AH Into the wingman profiler I will have it made.

Downtown, I had to manualy add the commands, using the setup files in the game info section on this web site.

The only reason I can think of why my profile closes AH on your pc is that AH does not seem to show up in the Windows registry(at least I haven't seen it yet) and the app path in the my stick profile is hash marks and numbers instead of a registry address.

Try this, make a clean, blank profile(show the profiler where the game executable is), then export the profile to a file(that's how you make a .wgp file), make sure you name it different from mine. Open them both in notepad and then either change the app path in my file to match the one in yours or add my commands list to your profile. Then import it and see if it works.
