Need Help Understanding Scoring...

I hoping someone can help me to understand how what seems like a discrepancy in my score. My natural tendency is to assume I'm getting something wrong especially when it comes to any problem associated with math, but something seems out of whack.

For instance, here are my Kill Stats for this tour include 41 kills, which break down to

A6M5b - 3
FM2 - 10
Hurri 2C - 1
KI-84 - 1
LVTA2 - 1
LVTA4 - 3
M3 - 1
Ostwind - 10
PT Boat - 1
SBD-5 - 8
Wirbelwind -2

However - here are my score stats -

Late War Tour 104 Statistics for Seagoon
   Fighter     Bomber     Attack     Veh./Boat     Total
Kills    1       0       8       17       26

Now, I understand that buff air to air kills don't count towards your score, but the only potential buff kills I've had this tour were in an SBD which I always fly as "attack" anyway and I see the 8 kills I got there. Where did I lose the other 15 kills - including 14 fighter kills?

You should be able to see on your stat sheet actual kills will have proxies subtracted. Maybe that's the difference.

Proxies are legit kills for score purposes.


Seagoon, by looking at your killstats I noticed you killed 22 PT boats alone. I guess You were killing a lot of them while flying fighters in fighter mode. Kills on GV's or boats do not count when being in fighter mode.

What were you in when you were killing 22 PT boats?  If it was in a fighter, those wouldn't count for rank.

Hi Lynch,

You'll notice that my score only shows 1 fighter kill for 15 actual kills in fighters flown as fighters. Perhaps one or two were proxies, but certainly not 14.

Ah, I didn't know that GV and boat kills don't count in fighter mode. Do they count in Attack and Bomber?

Scoring is easy to understand.  You fly, you have fun.  Sometimes you shoot stuff down.  You gain points (in theory).  Sometimes, you look them up and you see that you do indeed have points, but wonder if there is a point to all of these points.  Then you go fly some more.

They count towards rank only for attack and vehicle sorties.

So just confirming: GV/Boat kills don't count towards score in bomber mode either? I'd read in another thread that they did.

Nope. Fighter kills count in fighter mode, vehicle kills count in attack mode, and buildings count in bomber mode. I think buildings may count in attack as well but I'm not sure.

Bomber mode only scores damage vs objects (not enemies) for rank.

That's correct regarding attack mode.  It scores both vs enemy and vs objects.

There is no understanding scoring and it can easily be circumvented to make dweebs appear uber.

Thanks for correcting me. I not aware of the modes having an effect on the kills counted. When I look at tour stats of myself and see what Seagoon is talking about, I had made the assumption that proxies were the reason. Now I know to check my mode before upping.

And I already know what "assume" means.
