Fuel Tanks
« on: September 29, 1999, 09:42:00 AM »
First off this sim looks promising. The spinning prop, 3d cockpit, head movements from G forces remind me of Jane's WWII Fighters. This is a good thing.   But here it's even better because we have proper flight models. Frame rate is also high. This is good because I'm sure those 3d clouds will suck up alot of framerate. (hint)

My question concerns fuel tanks. The online FAQ mentions some kind of auto-mode for proper cg balance. Does this mean that both external and internal tanks are drawn from simultaneously? Should this mode be used?

Any info would be appreciated.

It is my understanding that when "A" appears before the fuel tank designation the fuel is automatically drained from various tanks at and will try and maintain the best Centre of Gravity for the aircraft.

Pressing "Shift-F" will manually switch tanks and if no "a" is displayed then only the tank selected will be drained (with resulting CoG effects).

I often fly with a drop tank and only consume fuel from the tank initially.  Then when I approach combat I switch to automatic fuel consumption and drop the external tank.  I may or may not have more that 100% in the main auxiliary and wing tanks, depending on the sortie.  Dropping the tank before switching the fuel source results in fuel starvation and a momentary panic as the engine quits.

Cheers,

I want to know how to "de-select" a drop tank or other ordinance in the hanger.  After I selected drop tanks last night, the only way I could get rid of them was to drop them after take-off (cool explosions and all)

Thanks for quick response phaetn. Makes sense to me.

I've run into the same "de-select" problem with external stores myself. Try clicking in the area in back of the stores. You should see a label pop up saying "clear" or "remove"  or something to that effect.

If you have a problem selecting the stores area to remove them from the plane in the hangar, press F8 then use your view keys to rotate around the hangar so that you're behind the plane.
