the "excorsist" view
« on: September 29, 1999, 06:35:00 PM »
Get rid of it. The beauti of a 3d cockpit is that you can mimic realistic waste, body, head and eye movement within a geometrically accurate rendering of space (the cockpit).

I think the view system is outstanding, except for that 1 fake view.

*sarcasm mode on*  Unless of cousre we are mimicking a pilot take off his harness and putting his knees on the seat bellybutton forward so that he can get a clear dead 6 view

hehehe just bugging yas, but you get my point.

I don't know that many people that use it.  A lot of my squaddies that have tried AH and the Alpha Testers I got to know mainly use the snap pan view most of the time.  I might use the pan to look at something in more detail, but it is too slow for general use.

My rear view is mapped up and to the side of the seatrest.  No bellybutton flying the controls with my views... now there are some games with 2d cockpits that do have a direct 6 view.

Cheers,
ph

I've done the same. My raer view is mapped as if I'm looking back hard over my left shoulder.  Maybe the maping should be limited to extreme 'left shift' or 'right shift' of the rear view.

Are we talking about the same thing? I hit KP 2 and get a dead 6 view exaclty like WB - I would assume everyone uses it?

Foggia, picky? I don't think so, the excorsist view in WB is on the top of the list of hot topics and has a large effect on game play.

Yeah, get rid of the 360 neck twister.

Also either speed up gimme a slider to
adjust speed of 3d pan

HEhehe Yeager, what I would do it get rid of snap views all together and calibrate the pan view speed to have a relationship with G's being pulled.

Okay.
The view system is so realistic it ain't funny.

I sat in a 51 last weekend.  I mimicked flying and checking 6.  Here's what I did:

With my right hand on the stick, I shoved my left hand against the glass, and shoved.
Then, I looked hard over my left shoulder.
I could see EXACTLY what I see when I move the six view all the way over.
Agreed tho, the ded 6 view is exorcism at it's best, but it's actually okay by me, and here's why.
With the six view I have now, no one can slip onto my ded six without me seein' em.  The guy with the default six view has a HUGE blind spot and goes into the multiple 100's of yards across at greater range.
I'll take those odds to vegas.  Mine's better, and it's realistic to boot!

Errrrgggghhh, Rebel.

Nice system, and got to play in a P-51 too, you are starting to aggrivate me.

If someone can get that P-40B from Washington State to come to the Detroit Metro area, and just let me sit in it for a bit, I will feel much better.

I mapped my dead six view to pan over and look over my left shoulder for a Six View also.  It worked pretty good yesterday also, made some Bishop in a P-51 miss a couple times.

THough I ran out of space between my 109 and the ground.

Nope, we are not, so it is a bad assumption.

Once can map default views in AH and save new head positions by pressing F10.

I, for instance, held the stick hat back to get the unrealistic default six view.  Then I pressed the right arrow to slew the head position over, and added a touch of PG UP, too.  Then I pressed F10 to save the position.

Now when I press the hat back I don't get a dead six view but a view over the shoulder where I can see a bit of my rudder and some of the fuselage.  Now someone can't sneak into my dead six, but I have to be careful because the plane is blocking the view to the other side somewhat.  I try and make up for that by remapping another view.

Since I never use the full pan, but only snap pans it works really well.  For the sake of my own immersion, I never have my head rotate fully: my six view looks over the right shoulder... rather that then pressing left back and having the head rotate through 180 degrees, I let off the hat for a second and then press left back -- that causes the view to quickly snap forward and then to the left back in one fluid motion.

Hope this helps!
Cheers,

Downtown, when did that happen? (the making the 51 miss)

It might a been me.  I was out at f22, and just came over the canyon with Fli, and he jumped a spit, I covered the 109 that was comin down on him.
I shot at the 109, but he augered, so I climbed up into a wingover and got the spit, then had to run home, as that 109 (i think) was tailin me.  Chased me all the way back to a rear field to get shot by ack. Very good determination, he looked PISSED. heheheheh.
About my system.  Thanks!
About gettin to sit in a 51?
