Though I never crewed a Sherman series tank, the elevation is much too slow for even a manual elevation system. Having served on M-60 and M1 series tanks i recall that even in manual mode you could elevate the full range in less than four seconds. Since the Sherman was the first tank to incorporate a gun stabilization system I'm pretty sure this 12-14 second range is much to slow for a hydraulic system
