I hate dual updates
« on: September 18, 2008, 08:59:40 PM »
I updated my system over the last two days and obviously Aces High 2 changed as well.

I have a problem.

When I log into the game the clipboard is flipping the left side (roster/score/squad) up and down so it is unreadable.  Also the game hung and crashed when I entered an arena.

System:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ Brisbane 2.8GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core black edition Processor Model ADO5400DSWOF
ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard
PNY XLR8 VCG98GTXXPB-OC GeForce 9800 GTX Overclocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
(2) Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KHX8500D2K2/2GR
Samsung 24" widescreen, which is what I chose in the video 1920x1200 'widescreen'.

Ekk , thats a toughy. Dunno if it would help but try to remove the video8 file in your HTC , see if that lets ya go to normal.

what operating system?

If it is vista you may need to run as administrator. I remember there being a note in one of the stickies about the flipping clipboard and that was the suggested fix.

If it is not Vista then I don't know what else to try.

You need the dual-core AMD CPU patch.  If that is installed, and the clipboard is still spinning, then you will have to run the game in "Windows 98/ME" compatibility mode.

Thanks Skuzzy I will try it.  I am also having problems in COD4 and I had a blue screen crash while updating windows to SP3.

I might just wipe the drive and start over, but I will get the AMD update.

I was under the impression that the dual core patch wasn't compatible with SP3.

If my guess if right, you probably already had the dual core patch but killed it when SP3 was installed.

If someone else can substantiate my belief, can you uninstall SP3 and revert to SP2?

I have stayed away from SP3 and IE7 installs for XP as I had some questionable behavior occur after I tried them.  IE7 really buggered up one computer.

I am buying a new HD otw home and going to do a clean install of Windows up to SP2 and any security upgrades, then update the chip thingee then install all my drivers.

There is supposedly a problem with a Nvidia 9800 drivers too.

Well, I am running a AMD64 X2 4800+ with 2 gigs of ram, WinXP Pro SP3 and IE7 with all the latest updates, a 9800 gtx Nvidia video card with driver version 177.79 with no issues.  I do have the Dual core patch installed to.  BTW, my MB is a ASUS A8N-SLI premium.

Driver version with the problems was 175.19  which was the drivers I updated my old GeForce 6600 to right before it started going nuts...  :(

Rule #6 Always read the relevent forums before updating drivers or programs.

I just upped my texture size to 1024 w/hires pack and using 4xAA at 1280x1024x32 and still get 75 FPS.  Couldn't do that with the 7900GT I just had.  I don't even get stutters either.  Might be because i have 3 HD's, C:\ is a WD raptor, D:\ is my WD16 320gig Game drive and e:\ is another WD16 320gig as my Backup and Swap file drive.  I think its the best setup u can have is 3 physical drives.  This way it can access all 3 drives at sametime, C drive for window files, d drive for game files and e drive for swap files if needed.

That update comes with Windows SP3.  SP3 is basically a cumulative update of all the optional XP updates.  Nothing really new and outstanding came from SP3, shouldn't really cause any problem either.  However, if you noticed that one of the Windows Updates before SP3 was installed caused issues, then when you install SP3, that update is going to install again automatically.
