Astrophotography (I'm sick of politics)
« on: September 22, 2008, 10:34:27 PM »
Got to do some imaging this last weekend.

The weather sure is feeling nice. Its cooling off a bit.

Got out at the Observatory late Fri night and just unpacked and hit
the sack. Set my alarm for 4am and got up to shoot some MOON!

12' LX200
Lumenera 2-1m (red filter)
best ~800/2000

Copernicus (of course :p)

Arzachel and friends:

Apennines and Rima Hadely(near site of Apollo 15 Landing):

Sat night I was doing some different experiments will active cooling
of the scope and different diffraction masks for focusing.

I did take a quick try at Jupiter before it got too low:

Thanks for looking,

Wabbit,
I don't think the ISS is geo/Sync orbit? If it is could you get a picture of it? These are way cool.

If it was he'd have to travel to where it is to photograph it...

Actually some guys have.  Its tough but it can be done:

I've been meaning to give it a try.  My scope is computerized so I can download the latest orbital data and load it into the scopes computer.  I just haven't gotten the nerve to attempt it yet.  Working my way up to it. ;)  That sucker is moving fast.  It transits the sky in about 4 minutes so you don't have long to fumble around.

Clear Skies,

Thanks Hang.  Get you a nice long focal length refractor.  Solar, Lunar, planetary observing/photography are not affected by light polution.

really! I did not know that... got my son in law a big telescope for xmas a few years back.. he's a budding amateur peeping tom.. err.. astronomer. We've had some pretty good luck over on fire island in mid to late fall when the humidity is low. Never had quite as good results as what your getting. A couple of trips up to Vermont viewing from higher altitudes in lower light situations... WOW. WOW.. WOW.. like in the desert when I was a kid. It was like you were IN space. fantastic!

Good times.. enjoyed it immensely.. love learning new stuff, the boy is a good teacher.
