How about doing splitting runway into 3 separate parts...
If you bomb one part of it, buffs cant take off from that field, if you destroy 2 parts, fighters like F4u, Fw190 or P51 cant take off and if you destroy all 3 parts, field is closed.

If runway isnt long enough for bombers, bombers just cant take off ..
And we know that P51, Fw190 and F4u doesnt use any potato field strips..
but Bf109, spitfire and such can use shorter and poorer runway.

I like the idea of damaging the runways, and the added bit about using only planes w/rough field capabilities and then closing it down...sounds good to me

A little more "realistic" solution would be to make the ground softer than the runway, so that heavy planes would just sink in and not be able to make enough speed to take off.  Also, let bomb/rocket craters persist for a while, rather than having "sections" of the runway just disappear.  Always fun to try to take off or land on a cratered runway.

The F4U operated with the marines on several grass/dirt/mud runways.  With the super strong gear for carriers they did extremely well and have a very short full flap take off for carrier decks.

But I really like the idea.  would help with field capture a ton!!!!!

On a carrier take off the f4u also had something like 25 knots of relative wind on the nose to help with that short field take off.

And then the field is not usable for 8 hrs after capture.

duhh.. with the typo
Start -> strat.. bleah..

Anyways, forgot to mention that I wish that field ack wouldnt come up as soon as field gets captured, its lame.

More likely let everything be down for its normal time.
When having runway destroyed.. yaddayadda.. C-47s couldnt come to cheat either.
But if someone just doesnt destroy runway, I could feel it justified to use C-47 'cheat/abuse', because field nor barracks were downed.
As while defender could pay a chance to get field captured back if they take off from another field with c47!

Shall AH have good strat system when its finished.

Sort of unrelated, however, I'll point out a "Cheat" one can do when capturing fields.

I was flying a C47, airmen called out that Field XX didn't have ack down yet, and a bomber was OTW.  So I flew my C47 to the nearby mountains, found a nice little spot in a deep valley, and landed on a slope going up, gently, and turned the C47 around so I was pointed downhill, shut engines off and waited.  No one could see me unless they flew directly overhead.  So I waited.  Had a cup of joe, had a chew, 20 minutes later airmen called out for a C47..."Be there is 1 min" I said, fired up the engines, lifted off easily (aircraft pointed down hill) and captured airbase 45 seconds later.

I don't think one should be able to land on any terrain other than the terrain around the airfield, or someone like myself might exploit it!

Remember the C-47 bug where a 'defender' could grab a C-47 when he was watching the troops otw map room, hit fly, pop them all out and voila - instant recapture?

Did you read my whole post?
Please read it again, I am talking about it there.. and a solution.
