Feedback on default fuel ...
« on: October 07, 1999, 12:45:00 PM »
Feedback from my squaddies is that the default fuel level being 25% is a problem for them.  They would rather see 100% be the default and let the pilot adjust downwards when necessary.  Of course, they're just a lazy bunch of bastages who hate standing around the gas pump when they could be out plundering the enemy

Thanks!

You can make 100% default for a given plane if you will select it then go to the tower before hitting the fly button. Reason is the trip to the tower will save your setup you made in the hangar. This is true of all of the setups, such as weapons load, and convergeance.

Thanks, Mark, I'll pass that along to the rest of my squad!

Update:

I tried this and found that fuel load is not persistent across game sessions.  If you quit and restart the sim, you have to reset the fuel you want, go to the tower, and then it appears to be set for that session.

Other load-outs seem to be persistent.

Your view setups also appear to be saved for each plane (a nice touch).

I'm having a little trouble understanding the whole rationale for the fuel settings and multipliers.  Maybe one of the HTC guys can tell us what they're trying to achieve there?

Are we wanting guys to be entering combat with "realistic" fuel loads rather than some sort of "min dogfight load" or are we trying to get guys to load the amount of fuel necessary to fly to and from their target, or what?  Loading 25%, for example, seems to be enough to fly from one front-line field to the enemy's field, fight for 10 minutes, and then run outta gas

Which is fine of course.  Just wondering what the philosophy behind the fuel multiplier and the distance between fields is.

Also, I wonder how many guys have figured out that on some planes, you need to switch between fuel tanks, or you'll run out.  I crashed a couple times before I figgered out that there was still fuel on board, just not in the tank I was usin

The fuel mutiplyer is to give planes the advantages they had in real life. For instance the mustange is always viewed as a great plane. One of the primary resones that is true is because it has a very long range.

By increasing the burn rate of fuel we give the planes there advantages or disadvanteges of real life.
