P47B & C
« on: October 04, 2008, 06:50:25 PM »
How about it? Would greatly fill the gaps in EW scenario's/snapshots/fso's, and EW arena in general. Would be great to  have the original operational P47s. HE111 First though...  :)

Take the D-11, leave the drop tank behind. It's really not that much different. The Bs weren't in major use. The Cs were upgraded in the field and served alongside early Ds with the same features and functionality.

I don't really see the hole it fills. It would be like having a Fw190A4 and wanting a Fw190A3.

Yeah.

You'd be better off wishing for a D-11 with a paddle-blade prop and tweaked to pull 72" MAP. Then you'd have something.

I believed 57th and 56th FG used P47 Razor backs with there bubble top P47's.

These razor backs should have drop tanks, bombs and tube rocket pods like the P47D-22.

This plane should be updated in the LW Main Arena.

The "C's" were NOT "upgraded in the field" (meaning battlefield).   They were produced at the factory and included:  moving the dashboard to correct the center of gravity, strengthened control surfaces, install a short antenna, rudder and elevator corrections, corrected oil cooler exhausts etc.

I'm sure I missed a few things, but this is what I know off of the top of my head.

No P-47B's saw combat.

The only appreciable difference between the D-11 we have in game and the Factory C is no WEP and no drop tank.  While there were a significant number of C's that saw service in England, there would be little value, IMO, added by including the C, especially seeing how pretty much all of the C's that did see combat in Europe were upgraded in the field to a D standard (i.e. WEP and a centerline drop tank).

If you want to ask for a missing variant, IMO, the most bang for the designer's time would be for the D-23 or M.

What about Cs in the PTO? Any value there for scenarios/events/FSO?
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

First P-47's in PTO were D models.
