What crime is that ? You could impersonate Abe Lincoln on the Internet and unless your trying to defraud somone of property or services there aint no crime.
Nothing wrong with impersonating with no intent of harm (a costume party comes to mind, even playing the role for imersing yourself deeper in a game/simulator would be fine)... but to impersonate someone while defaming that person(s) or defrauding them though... yeah that's not taken lightly in a court of law, especialy in regards to impersonating an officer (the groundpounder line comes to mind, you won't find a Marine officer in the service that would deny that comment was defamatory).
